Is anyone here with UC worried about getting swine flu? I've heard it has a gastric component, and can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Doesn't sound like fun to me, especially if someone was already in the middle of a flare-up.

With the onset of my 2nd. flare, I experienced a headache, nasal congestion, and aches and pains in my joints, along with a rash on my ankle. Living in an area where swine flu is present, I'm not sure I'd know which is which until about the third day.

I've had stomach bugs a couple of times since having IBD and I had no troubles telling the difference between my flare and having the flu/stomach bug.  If you're unsure then you should see your doc.

Any flu would probably trigger a flare, I'm sure this one is no different really (unless Remicade keeps me OK). It's the fever that would signal flu vs. UC flare.
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering. Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; used prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; eliminated wheat/gluten from my diet. Probiotics (Ultimate Flora, 50 billion).
Bad flare in March, used prednisone. Humira denied, started Remicade 4/12 and doing great~

Don't worry...I think this Swine Flu scare is 90% hype.  The media loves it.

Update 11/03/08...finally in remission!!  Hope I don't jinx myself.  Off the prednisone since 11/01/08...now see if I can stay off for longer than two weeks.  Other meds: 6MP (75 mgm), colazal (6 per day), Benicar and Toprol (high blood pressure meds), Probiotic (2 per day), fish oil capsule and multi-vitamin and calcium with vitamin D.

I agree witht the latter post. I'm going to Mexico for a week at the beginning of June. 6 people I know just came back, all is good!

Very mild left sided (could have fooled me with the "mild")  UC. Started LDN ON 1/25/09, stopped LDN on 5/1/09 didn't seem to help. Supplements: Probiotics, Cipro antibiotics 4/29 for 8 days seems to be helping, no bleeding right now.
