So if anyone remembers back in Feb I tried to get a single dorm room with a private bathroom. Res life was really crappy about it and would give me any answers about anything and I was less than thrilled with them. I was put into a double room that shares a bathroom with another double room. I eventually came to terms with the dorm room I had been assigned and figured I'd make the best of it.
But...today I got in the mail I got a letter from res life explaining that I got the single room with the bathroom! I was sooo excited! It'll make my life a million times easier without having to fight with the locks on the bathroom door when I'm about to have explosive d! tongue
The only problem is though...what do I do about the toilets?! Asacol stains the toilet bowel at home and my mom hates it. How am I gonna keep the toilet free of purple stains?? Oh the stuff we UCers have to deal with smilewinkgrin

Hi Sam....congratulations!!!

Purchase yourself Vim Power Cream spray with bleach and the Vim Cream with bleach. To wash the toilet, use regular dish detergent and a bit of vim cream or a bit of bleach if you choose...I don't use bleach straight.

The Vim Power Cream Spray with bleach used daily to wash the underneath of the seat keeps the stains under control. On occasion you might need the Vim Cream to take care of the stubborn stains.

I use toilet paper to clean everything except inside the bowl....that I use a brush.

The point of it all....wipe the underneath of the seat and maybe the inside of the lid if need be after every bm pr at least once a day.

Congratulations again for the private throne room!

Yay!!!!! I'm really happy for you! :)

I've found that Comet and a green scrubbie work well on the stains on my toilet (those on the underside of the lid). The others come off with regular bowl cleaner.
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

The only problem with reallllly abrasive stuff is that it leaves it "open" for more staining.

I've even found toothpaste to take off stains...and it's not "too" abrasive.

I'm so excited! It's funny what little things make us happy!

I'll probably have to put one of those things that stick to the side of the bowl. I have the most issues with the seat itself those so maybe I'll just take some wipes to the seat every night before bed or something.

Asacol stains the toilet bowel at home and my mom hates it

This is kind of funny. I inadvertently wrote bowel instead of bowl!! tongue

That's great news-- congrats!!!!!!! cool  Maybe your school's administrators got word that IBDers are protected by the federal Americans with Disabilities Act as of Jan. 1, 2009. Those double-locks on adjoining bathroom doors in the dorm were a bane of my college yrs even though neither I nor my roomies had UC then. So good for you getting a private loo, finally!!!!!! I agree with above recommends that cleaning stains ASAP makes the difference in acceptable results. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])
