My husband has had a bad eye infection for the past couple days.  I finally managed to get him in to see the doctor after he came home today from work in pain.  The doctor said he has Uveitis and referred him out to an eye specialist.  I take him tomorrow but in the meantime she prescribed him steroid/antibiotic eye drops.

So anyone who has had this, how long did it take for your eyes to stop hurting?  How fast did the eye drops work?  If you work, how long were you out of work?  What did you do to help ease the pain until the drops started working?

We have no idea how he got this.  Our doctor said that normally you see Uveitis in someone that has an underlying cause such as an IBD but my husband is healthy as a horse.  So she thinks that it might be viral in nature though it is rare.

Sure hope your husband gets fast relief and takes good care of his eyes.

I had this about three years ago.  It was second in line for pain for me, just behind kidney stones.  I couldn't even pass by a sunny window with my eyes closed without getting hit with severe pain.  I didn't lose any work, though, except for doctor's appointments.  Mine happened on a Friday, I think, so I had the weekend to recover.  I was given the steroid drops, and also another type of drops for pain (don't remember the name).  They started working almost immediately.  It only took a couple days, if I remember, to feel like it was gone, although I took the drops for a few more.

I do remember working a part-time job that Saturday and it was okay in the morning, but got bad again in the afternoon.  I waited a bit after we closed to let the drops do their thing before driving home.  about a week later, though, it happened again.  After it cleared up that time, it's never happened again.  My opthalmologist told me, too, that it was most likely because of my UC.

He's resting on the couch now. I gave him a Darvocet and it seems to be working. Or at least he's sleeping and he doesn't notice the pain as much! He was in so much pain that it made me feel helpless - I sort of know what he goes thru with me now. I just don't know how he got this. He's usually really healthy but I guess we will get more answers tomorrow after he sees the eye doc.

Thanks for the replies and thanks for the link Elaine.
