I have been on prednisone for 4 weeks now. I am on a lower dose due to the fact that my body doesn' thandle the side effects very well (high bp/ rapid pulse/ itching). The odd part about me is that I have no appetite at all!! I have to force myself to eat anything and have lost like 15 lbs in those 4 weeks. I don't know if its from the prednisone or from the immuran that I just started on not too long ago. I thought I would have the same problem as you are having but I guess everyone reacts differently.
Diagnosed with Crohns in October 07
Diagnosed by new dr with Ulcerative Colitis 03/09
Colonoscopy on 4/23-diagnosed with severe ulcerative proctitus

Meds:
12 Asacol/day
proctofoam at night
prednisone (10 mg)
Azathioprine (50 mg)
pentasa
canasa

Waiting to feel healthy again....

I took pred for about 7 or 8 months and I ate everything in sight...My appetite didn't decrease until I was off of it...Actually the weight came off rather quickly...I don't know if I was just retaining water or what but I didn't argue the fact that the weight was coming off...I tried to drink lots of water to keep me from getting so hungry...That helped some...

i think some weight is water retention as socks are leaving big indentations on my legs so i hope like others the weight will come off once i have stopped pred.

Hi,

I am new to this forum but have been "lurking" for a long time. My 17 year old son has has pan ulcerative colitis for 1.5 years now and is now in his third round of prednisone. He has the "munchies" only at the beginning...about the first week or so and then as he tapers he loses the hunger drive.

Well I have been on pred for 2 months and gained 10lbs because I'm starving all of the time and this has been my experience in the past too. It lasts as long as you are on it.
Fortunately I am tapering now and looking forward to being in control of my appetite again!
