Maybe it's obvious but I realize that....

when I sit down for extended periods during the day, my UC symptoms (pain, gas, tenesmus) get worse. During the week, I work with computers and end up sitting 8-10 hours a day. On the weekends, when I am out and about and not sitting around, it's as if I have no UC at all.. I am not about to give up my career for this illness but it makes me think. confused

wow, for me it's the opposite- I'm fine with sitting down- once I stand up, however, gravity seems to do it's thing & *everything* that's in there MUST come out! I generally sit about 7 hours a day, between work & just...sitting..... for me, walking around, standing up, etc. all get things moving. If I plan to go for a walk, it can only be after my morning/mid-morning bathroom trips are complete.

diagnosed with UC '02
meds-
Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade-10mgs/kg- since 4/07
Imuran- 150mgs/day
various probiotics
Fiber supplement

I am the same as Eva Lou.  As long as I don't move around much I am fine.  Go to a store, etc. and I always have to "go"!!

I sit at work all day but I had a job for about 3 months that I was standing, walking and doing more physical labor than usual and my symptoms got way better during that time period. I make more money at my office job but i would actually prefer another type of job where i didn't have to sit all day. I think it helped to be standing up after my lunch and helped the digestion process somehow. I always think sitting down, leaning over or sidways puts restraints or something on the passage ways.
And I always get tenesmus more at night and it is always best when i wake up. Strange huh.
