how long for prednisone to work?

My doctor started me on 40mg of prednisone today, i am in the middle of a very bad flare. I have not needed steroids for over a year (which has been really nice!) I am having a hard time remembering how long it usually starts to work to decrease the blood/pain/diareah. I know it is different for everyone but any experiences will help. Thanks!

For me it doesn't take long at all for it to kick in. Usually like a two or three days for me.
Asacol-12 a day
1 Culturelle
1 Canasa
5g Fish oil supplements
1 Vitamin
1 B-12(for anemia)

I started on a Monday and by Tuesday, I had half the BMs I had been having, and by Wednedsay, I just had a couple. So for me, it was really fast!
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

It can be different each time you go on it, usually it starts to work at that dose within a few days...it no longer works for me though :( which sucks cuz I never really ever got side effects from it, just a little acne on my back was all.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

It took me about three weeks. Then it was a gradual improvement.
Male, Age 36
UC since July 2006 - entire large intestine

Thank you everyone! I am noticing a difference already...was able to leave the house today for the first time in 4 days! I may even go for a walk since I am home sick from work :-)
