Daughter has been on Imuran for 6 months.  Her dosage was raised to 150 mg/daily 2 months ago and we've noticed a lot more distractedness, lack of focus, etc from her.  Assigned a task she'll take 2 hrs to only complete part of it.  Her school work is lacking as well.  Can this be a possible side effect of the increased dosage?

holy crap, that seems like a massive dose for an 8 year-old! I take that dose too, but am 39 & weigh 115lbs! I started at 100mgs, then it was upped to 150mgs about 6-8 months ago- I do seem to recall feeling a bit more spacey than usual, until my body adjusted. Does she take it at bedtime? that may help. (I just noticed the 3x dosing in your sig) Jeez though, is she seeing a pediatric GI? Ask about taking the entire dose at bedtime- I don't think Imuran needs to be divided up in that way, but am not entirely sure.

diagnosed with UC '02
meds-
Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade-10mgs/kg- since 4/07
Imuran- 150mgs/day

I took advice of Eva a while back when she suggested taking the entire dose at bedtime to aviod neausea and the worst side effects and I have found it is certainly much better if you take the entire at bedtime,my GI never gave any advice on when or how to take the dosage,I'm on 150mg too and weigh 58 kgs which I also thought was about maximum for my weight.
I think the immuran could certainly account for her being more spaced out, I find I have needed much more sleep and rest since I've been on immuran I also tire much more easily when doing tasks mental, and physical, even my organizing of household stuff, has slipped,I also find the odd day that I forget to take my dose I feel much more perky, clear headed and less fuzy brained I'm with Eva I would get her dose checked it seems an awful lot for a child and should relate to weight,My GI says ideally in mgs no more that 2 1/2 times your body weight.
Also you will notice most people on this site are on about 50/75mg I think its only me and Eva on 150mg
One last thing,if the immuran is working well for her there is no reason why you can't decrease the ammount sorry for going on good luck

I just started 100mg per day....I am 5'-11 and about 190lbs... I have a colonxpy next week so the dosage may change accordingly... So far my side effects have been minor - a bit spacey feeling, and some lethargy... I noticed that waking up in the morning I look hung over w/ huge bags under my eyes...and I am very tired in the morning... I may switch to taking them at night as well to see if that changes... I have only been on them less than a week so far, so my fingers are crossed that it has an effect....
