Ok, I know I have read that can be the case.  Tapering down from 40 mg. - now down to 15mg. (third day).  I was sick this morning (nothing new) and could not go with my husband shopping, etc. as planned after his PT.  Now, I cried and I NEVER cry - stupid, dumb disease!! Took extra Xanax and now seems to be helping!
Doctor had me raise 6MP to 75 mg. and taper prednisone to 15mg.  So far the side effects of this are ok.  Still have some blood in stool but well-formed.  Just the aching and the no sleep, etc. etc.  I felt so much better on 25mg., of course!  Wishing the 6MP would do better.  I tried steroid enemas two nights and suppositories two night - having problem with them - also, as usual, doing more harm than good.  GEEZ - guess just most venting here.  You all have been there in some form - just that I am getting too old for this!!

Vent away - prednisone has some crazy side-effects. Hope 6MP works well for you, and that you're better soon.

Oh boy do I know about the steroid emotions! After being on and off the steroid enemas for a year, I seemed to develop a sensitivity to any and all steroids. Instant side effects regardless the dose. My primary doc tried me on a low dose of steroids not too long ago (10mgs) to help with my arthritis. I didn't make it past the second day! I was an emotional wreck, my legs started cramping horribly and I couldn't sleep. Needless to say I didn't even make it to the taper. The steroid injections that I get in my neck do the same thing.

Be patient with the 6mp. It can take a while before it really works. Some people it can take up to 6 months. I've even heard that for one person it took a year. When I started on 6mp and when it really started working, it was like a switch was thrown. I woke up one morning and didn't have a single twinge - nothing! I thought something was horrible wrong at first! lol

Thanks Sherry...

I have been on 6MP for 11 weeks but just started on 75mg.  Not sure if the ringing in my ears and pain in back of my head is withdrawal or increase in doseage.  I know the "drousey" feeling, etc. is tapering prednisone - that is not bad.  Now if only I did not see the blood in the morning - all would be fine!  By the way, the Xanax worked wonders - just didn't take it soon enough!

Kara, that is a horrible thing for your husband to say! Shame on him! He should love you regardless of how you look. Looks are not that important if someone loves you for who you are.

I am sorry Kara.  My husband stayed home from an appointment today because I was crying.  He didn't say anything really - just stayed home to be here if I needed him.  We have been married 48 years and he has seen me 150 lbs. to 250 lbs. and always treats me with respect.  I know he prefers me slimmer but understands what is going on.  He was on steroid a short time and know all about munchies, etc.  Hang in there.  Have a talk with him - a serious talk about what is going on - get it out in the open!

Tell him to stuff it! :)
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

because he has found a website that says its possible to lose weight on prednisone.... he is right.

http://www.healthcentral.com/diet-exercise/question-answer-27732-63.html

I seriously am about to lose it. I feel like crying and screaming and just want to break down. Why can't he just shut up and say he loves me. Why are men so dense!

Sorry to say the website is absolutely right.  However, we are human - munchies from prednisone is the WORST and difficult to control.  I am already obese (about 80 lbs. over) but managed to only gain about 6 to 7 lbs. since Feb. 1 on prednisone.  This is mostly fluid!  You can lose - you have to eat less and/or exercise more than the calories you need.  I know because I have lost over 70 lbs. 3 times in my life doing just that.  BUT - we are not perfect, we are human, we are vulnerable and we have this DD.

Without Xanax I know I would often be a basket case.  Hang in there!
