I am 6 months pregnant with my second child. I have been having odd GI symptoms since early January. Because I am pregnant, my doctor refuses to scope me. So, I am waiting patiently until baby arrives. Obviously, I am not expecting anyone to diagnose me, but I am curious as to whether or not anyone had similar symptoms prior to being diagnosed with UC.
It all started with very watery diarrhea in January (which was only once a day, but went on for several weeks). The diarrhea did resolve, but I have had consistently narrow stools, urgency, and belly pain. The pain is most pronounced while having a bm and is located very low down, center and left side over to my hip. Although it is worst at these times, I have also had episodes of pain AFTER a bm where I literally have to lie down because the pain is so bad. It is not a cramping pain, but just a really deep pain. I have also had several episodes of INTENSE rectal pain. It stops me dead in my tracks and takes my breath away. In addition, I have MAJOR urgency issues. Sometimes I RUN to the bathroom, only to discover that I really don't need to go. I have not had any blood in my stool and I have had my stool tested for parasites, bacteria, etc. which has all come back normal. I am not anemic. Finally, I have had inflammation in the back of my throat for weeks, which is not clearing up. It's not painful enough to make me think that it's strep or anything, just really annoying.
Obviously, I'm worried this could be something serious.... like an IBD, or even worse, cancer. I am 31 years old and in otherwise good health.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Do you have UC?
I did while i was pregnant but i was in remission. But pregnant women often get hemoroids, as you probaby know, and that could be your rectal pain. Also urgency is common, depending on how the baby is laying. That pain could be from that, those babies do some crazy stuff to you!
Hope you get to feelingbetter

I'd go to a different doctor!  I had a sigmoidoscopy when I was pregnant.  They don't sedate you so there was no risk to the baby.  I was about 4 months pregnant.  I had c.diff which I never had before and never had UC symptoms prior to getting pregnant.  We have no idea how I got c.diff since I wasn't on any antibiotics.  Anyway, I ended up with UC. You shouldn't have to suffer the pain you are in, go to a new doctor and get scoped!

Female, Age 38
Diagnosed w/c.diff 7/02 when pregnant w/1st and only child during 2nd trimester(wasn't on antibiotics)
C.diff flare within weeks of delivering baby 1/03, Diagnosed with UC 2/03
Current Meds:
Lialda, 6MP
Ferrex Forte
Acidophillus, Sacchromyces Boulardii, Oil of Oregano
