I was diagnosed with UC the end of March I was put on Asacol and I was allergic. Then told to try Lialda.  I was allergic to that to.  Then I just started Azathiaprine(imuran) on Sunday and I'm having the same side affects.  They start like this on all three of the medications.  First I get a sore throat then I itch, then I get a rash on my chest, arms, and face(by my mouth and side of face), then about a day or two later I wake up and my left wrist hurts(were I can hardly move it), then the next morning my neck hurts.  What is going on?  Has anyone else had this problem?  I stopped the imuran two days ago.  I don't know what is going on.  I take levotyroxin for thyroid and sprintex(birth control pills).  Could it be something I'm eating that is interacting with the pills or the pills i'm taking interacting with the new pills?  Just werid I have a problem with all three drugs.

I don't think it's weird at all that you are allergic to Asacol and Lialda, as they both contain mesalamine as the active ingredient. It is odd, though, that you had the exact same reaction to imuran. I have no idea what might be causing it.
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

I agree. It isn't at all uncommon to be allergic to mesalamine. It is pretty strange that you have the same type of reaction to the imuran which contains no mesalamine. Don't know what to make of that...
