My Dr appointment is on the 27th. I have another week, but I am getting worse and have been actively ill for months now. My primary Dr just referred me to the Gastro, didn't offer anything to help with the symptoms I am having now. I don't have a UC diagnosis, but my Primary Dr. said she though that was what was wrong. I can't talk to anyone about it because of the sensitive nature of the problem as well as the fact I don't want to worry family if it is not UC. I try to talk to my husband about it but he doesn't want to talk about it.

I feel horrible, I can hardly eat anything without feeling horrible, and I am trying to drink water but have to take small amounts because if I have too much food or drink I feel bloated and nauseated.

There seems to be a lot of blood but my labs said I am not anemic. I go to the bathroom upwards of 15+ times a day, my abdomen is tender to the touch and I have so much gas, I am embarrassed to leave the house. I have to go to work, and at least have a semi private bathroom, but my supervisor is probably starting to wonder why I am getting up so much.

I am in pain, and scared and have no one to talk to.

Jenn- I think many of us here have been where you are and not knowing can be so much worse than finding out, getting help and knowing what you are dealing with.  Hang in there - one week - get your questions ready for the gastro doc and if he schedules tests ask him for medication to help you feel better before a diagnosis.  I know I took Imodium and pepto bismal all with his approval to help.

You can always come here and whine/chat/vent/whatever - we understand!

Jenn, I was scared as could be before I was diagnosed with UC, just because I didn't know what was wrong. While the diagnosis definitely sucked, it did help finally knowing what was wrong. I hope the next week goes by really quickly! Hang in there!
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

Jenn, I am sorry you have to go through this. I was really scared before I got told I had UC also. Hang in there and you can always talk to us. Try to eat really easy food like rice with a little chicken. I use a heating pad which makes me feel a lot better. Take deep breaths and remember that if it is UC which it probably is then stress makes it worse! Once you get to the GI he will give you some medicine and you will feel so much better I promise!

Before I was diagnosed with UC, I was really sick for over a month and my primary Dr. thought I had a stomach bug from my vacation to Mexico. He had me on an antibiotic and told me to drink tea and burnt toast because I couldn't tolerate anything. I was seeing him once a week and I was getting worse and losing tons of weight. I had lots of bloody poop and urgency and kept going to work and running to the bathroom all day. I finally just drove myself to the emergency room one day when I vomited after drinking water. They said I would have passed out from the dehydration if I hadn't gone in that day. I was there a few days and my primary doc actually had the nerve to come to my room and scold me for not coming to see him before coming to the emergency room. The nurses had to escort him out and they helped me find a new doctor with a better bed side manner. I had the sygmoidoscopy done and they found the UC. Things will get better when they can get you the right meds. Hang in there.

Thanks everyone. Another question, I am having frequent headaches/migraines is this unrelated or could this be related to the UC i(f it is UC I am suffering from)? I am trying to drink sips of water to stay hydrated, but this week there has been lost of blood and trips to the toilet. If I am a bit dehydrated, I guess that could be causing the headaches.

I am 29 yrs old, but first symptoms appeared 6 months after I turned 28.

I know that no one wants to listen to this but,If you are having the bloating then cut out dairy, see if that helps. It helped me when I was sick and off of work. Dairy is a food that is not really digestable and more people are allergic to it than you think. You will get better, once you get the right meds.

Jenn dear, dnt worry! You will be fine, once you know what the problem is there are medicines to help. I know it is difficult to discuss this problem, my case both my husband's & my family came to know about it the same time i came to know about it - was little embarrassing :-) But now i have told everyone i m fine - because first, i dnt want to be reminded of it again and again when i am asked how i am feeling & second, it's my problem and no use troubling others with my worry. Just hang in there - you will be fine! Yes, regarding headaches- i do get them but somehow feel that colitis is not the reason behind it. Drink lots of water - i drink nearly a gallon each day....it is very important!
Right now -FLARING (after my Rubella vaccination)
Diagnosed in Jan'2009: Canasa suppositories 1000 nightly - worked for 2 months then re-flare
13 may: canasa 1000 X2 daily for 2 weeks - to start Lialda after 2 weeks if canasa double dose does not work
Symptoms: Mucus, blood, constipated (not always), Lots Gas
Also gifted with Hypothyroid & have calicum deficiency family history!
Also started Probiotic from 23 Mar & fresh Turmeric root from 25 March'09- stopped both on 10th May

I know we need to stay hydrated but I cannot drink lots and lots of water.  I try to get more fluid by eating applesauce, frozen fruit thingys, lowfat milk and other ways than drinking just water - peppermint tea sometimes.  Just plain water, especially without food, just makes me very sick.
