Has anyone tried alternative medical treatments?  Namely Glutathione IV treatments.  My 9 year old son with Pancolitis, over the past 4 weeks, has shown increasing symptoms of a flare up.  Went to Alternative MD, with great out of pocket expense, wants to try these Glutathione IV treatments and I am more than skeptical.  First off, how I am to convince this very needle paranoid child to go to a Dr. office 2x week and get an IV?  You should see how long it takes any tech to find a vein for blood.  The treatments are not covered by any insurance cost big bucks!  I would spend my last dime if it would help my child!  His history: diagnosed at 3 years old and culminated with a a major flare at 5 years old which was up to 20 bloody diarrehea epis. a day.  Put on, loathed, course of Prednisone (60 mg) for 6 months followed by remission for 3 years on Azathoriprine and Asacol.  Predn. left him with a host of problems!  He gained 30 lbs in 3 months, obsessed with food, balance, muscle tone off, kids are cruel, knew that he was mentally unbalanced while on the drug and I swear to this day he is as terrified, as I am of, having to go back to it!  I truly believe that while Predn. can put one in remission it causes so many other problems that the doctors refuse to acknowledge.  While we are not as bad as we were 3 years ago we are headed in the wrong direction.  Extreme diar., urgency, that smell that makes my skin crawl, typical morning is 30 plus minutes on the toilet, I am falling apart, sorry to ramble!  What about accupunture, while scared of needles he is fasinated by accupunture?  I am wondering if I do it, could he?  What about chinese herbs?  Any advise greatly appreciated!

Hi cuties mom,
My son is 17 & 4 years ago he was dx with IC, sometimes UC. He was refractory to all western meds & consequently was put on very high doses of steroids IV. This did leave him with permanent hand tremors, muscle flacidity and more...it did not work for his UC either.  We took the alternative route and one time he was tried on increasing doses of glutathione drops, orally. It may have worked for a short time and he was put on ever increasing doses; he was going trough many bottles a day until we gave up. In retrospect, I do not think it did much. We have been through it all-acupuncture & Chinese herbs, cranio-sacral therapy, osteopaths, of course, nutritionists, hypnotists and more. He has tried every supplement, vitamin, remedy out there.
This brings me to today and he is on a regimen that seems to be helping (his primary sx was bleeding and sometimes lots of it). He is on RF+, Isatis cooling and Krill oil. He did start bleeding a couple of months ago when I was reducing the pills and I had to increase dosages & started Krill oil at that time. Right now he is taking 2 RF+, 2 Isatis cooling & 1 Krill oil in the morning. I consider this maintenance.
To think a few years back, his GI had a room set up so that he could receive Cyclosporin-so glad we did not pump his little body with more stuff that quite possibly may not have worked.
I do not know how long he will be on the upswing but this is what we are doing.
