I have been on Asacol since I was diagnosed about a month ago.  Nothing is different then it was the first time I walked in the GI doctor’s office.  I still have ALL the pain, I'm still losing weight, and I'm still not back to work!  I have to get back to work, its been three months off now.  One of the other GI doctors in my GI's practice (because My GI Guy is on vacation for a month) Well the new gi just switched me yesterday to Lialda (2tabs once a day)

Do you think this will help?  From what I have read, it is basically the same medicine as Acacol.  Also I wanted to ask about what you all call URGENCCY.  I have never had that promblem in fact, I only GO about every three days or so.

And this is strange for me because I have had chronic constipation for YEARS! So I don’t know where all that fits in

I'm so confused by all of this and I dont know whhere to turn to.

I have had this same question. Before I had UC I was the same I only ever went 1 every 2 days. When I turned vegetarian I went every morning (which is better for you then 1 every 2 days). Then UC started, and my poo’s increased. Sometimes I would go 1 after another (eg one in morning then one at work) I only had diareeah when I was in a flare. Then I went at least 10 times a day. UC can change your bowl habits unexpectedly.

I think you should probably be on some rectal meds as well. A lot of us on here use mesalamine enemas or supposiories. They have the same active ingredient as Asacol and Lialda, but they do a better job of treating the lower parts of the colon than oral meds do.
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

Hey,

I was diagnosed a year ago with Crohns and placed on Asacol.  I too had chronic constipation and terrible right side pain that I had for many years before finally getting diagnosed.  That is why I was in denial for some time because everyone would talk of urgency, which meant they had chronic diarrhea, not constipation.  However my colon was so thickened that I could not pass hard stool.  I was placed on Asacol 4 pills, three times a day and it worked within weeks.  I noticed that you stated that you started Lialda and I can personal say that the convience of once a day is NOT worth it.  I switched four days ago and I have had nothing but loose , frequent stools, especially after I eat or drink!  So my suggestion is ask your GI dr. to increase your Asacol to 4 pills, three times a day.  From what you wrote, it seems you are only taking two pills?  I definately am  going back to Asacol since I never had a problem while I was taking it.  Hope this helped! Good luck
