Does anyone else have this and have you found anything that helps?   I posted on the GERD forum (no replies) and here some months back but I am always keen to compare notes with anyone suffering similar symptoms with the UC or Crohn's.   A few months back I had an upper EGD done and it seemed to explain a chronic pain, frequently localized to a spot about 5 inches above my naval in the center of the abdomen right where the rib cages meet, although it can spread out to encompass parts of my stomach and lower abdomen- almost like it is fed by or feeds into the UC as well.  I had always assumed the pain was some sort of especially ulcerative activity in my transverse colon, but it is apparently mild (though it feels anything but mild) gastritis and esophagitis, with patchy erosions, as well as a "Schatzki's ring".  I had this pain a year and a half earlier and it didn't show at all in an EGD then- I guess persistent inflammation will eventually do its damage.  Chronic prednisone use may well be a player, I know, but as I have come down to low levels of pred while using biologics (hopefully off them soon, otherwise surgery), the pain has actually picked up.  Have many of you had similar burning pain?  There is no reflux with this but right now the pain is as bad as my worst UC flare pain, even though the UC is for the time being (thanks to Humira and low dose pred) very mild, with formed stool and no blood.  I am hoping that once I get off pred this will slowly, slowly abate but I fear this is just another open-ended chronic ailment now.  Prescription PPI drugs are doing absolutely nothing for this, and so far neither has DGL, or the supplement 'heartburn free' (orange peel extract).

Tried everything under the sun (natural and alternative)
Some partial success with TSO but was too expensive to keep up
Remicade Humira, lots of probiotics, entocort, tapering pred again, maybe surgery this year

I have never had an upper scope done but I suspect that I may have gastritis. There was a time a few years ago that I forgot to take my Prilosec for a week and boy was I in pain! I had horrible burning in my stomach as well as painful spasms and nausea. I never really had heart burn when the doc put me on Prilosec. It was more of the painful stomach and painful lump in my esophagus. I've been lucky though because the Prilosec keeps my symptoms down. Have you ever been tested for H.Pylori?

Thanks Sherry- so far negative for h.pylori- including in the biopsies taken and in a stool test. I took a breath test too and they screwed up the test but I didn't want to repeat it because that ghastly sugar drink flared up my UC. What is puzzling about my pain is how it can interact and spread with the lower abdomen- eg today I can feel pain down in the pelvis too. This may be general UC pain but it's as if whatever the inflammation is in the upper GI, it can spread to the lower too. Obscure, long shot ideas that it could be some other bacteria or virus, and one which may be a player in my UC, doesn't play with my very mainstream GI. I have an alternative MD as well, but h e just stabs in the dark so I feel I am stumbling in the blind. Candida comes to mind, but it didn't show up on a stool culture. This pain used to be on and off but the past few weeks it has been 24/7.
