Many of you know that I had my first J-pouch surgery last October 20 and the second and final surgery January 21. After being off work for almost 6 months straight I went back to work half days April 14. After about one week I developed an anal fissure and had to stop working again. Today I finally went back to work again. I will be working half days this week and may start full time next week. My fissure is much better although I do have some slight discomfort during bowel movements. I can finally say that my condition is better than before surgery. My energy level is about the same, I have about 4 or 5 BM’s per day with mild urgency compared to 7 to 10 with extreme urgency before surgery.  In fact last week I had 2 days in a row with only 3 BM’s each day. I have not woke up once in the last 2 weeks to go to the washroom. Before surgery it was very rare to not go overnight.

Glad to read that your fissure is healing. Take it easy; don't push yourself to do more than you're comfortable with. Hopefully, the worst is now behind you & you'll be in good shape to enjoy summer this year. Continuing best wishes! / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Glad to hear you are feeling well enough to go back to work, Paul. That's great news, and as Old Hat said, don't push yourself and take it easy. You've been down a long road my friend, and now you deserve to coast. Cheers!

Wow Paul....it's great to hear you're back at work and that your progress is definitely notable...especially not waking up during the night for bms.

ARe you still using any meds to help with the fissure?

Do you have to do any sitz baths?

Hope your progress continues. As usual, it's nice to read your updates.

Thanks everyone, I stopped the meds for the fissure a couple of weeks ago because it was making it worse. I thought of doing the sitz baths but being stubborn about it I never bothered. It just healed itself by doing nothing. I think it was all the TV I watched that healed it. Lol. I have to get back to full time work soon. My 100% sick leave just ran out and I’m now on 75% pay.

LOL...TV is so underrated!

I would definitely try the sitz bath....

Can you not use something like Proctocedyl? At least it could be better than nothing.
