I was gone for the holiday weekend and I have been in a fairly good remission.  Things aren't exactly "normal" but I guess it's normal for me anyway.  So anyway, while I was on vacation I got brave and had corn on the cob and watermelon.  I was in heaven!  And I find it incredible that I COULD eat those things!  The last time I had corn on the cob was nearly 7 years ago!  It's the little things that make me happy! yeah

Oh and bit OT - if any of you read my minor vent post.  The doctors office called today to let me know that my daughter DOES have a UTI instead of kidney stones.  They sent her urine out to the lab for more thorough testing.  I have to go pick up her Microbid prescription this afternoon.  I am very relieved to hear this.  All I could think of was her future if it WAS a kidney stone!

Sounds like you had a wonderful holiday, Sherry! I've been lucky in being able to eat corn on the cob ever since I've been on Remicade. All of my favorite things - beans, Mexican food, high-fiber cereals - were the things that always made my flare so much more painful.

I'm delighted to be able to report to my GI when I see her that I made it through major surgery (including IV antibiotics) without a blip on the UC radar.

Hi Sherry...great you enjoyed some festivity culinary treats!

Regarding your daughter's UTI....make sure she takes probiotics during the course of antibiotics...heck, she should be on them anyway.
Happy to hear it's not stones.

Oh, curious when the corn comes out....at least you'll have an idea of your transit time..lol! convenient, yes? hehe

Have a great week.

August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; eliminated wheat/gluten from my diet.
Bad flare in March, used prednisone. Humira denied, started Remicade 4/12 and doing great~ learning what normal is~ wow

Yay! :)
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

Congrats on being able to eat corn on the cob. My favorite type of food, but I don't even dare go near it anymore. Although I'm in remission, I think my body is extra sensitive to this stuff. Glad to hear you did well with it. :)

Corn can definitely be problematic, but watermelon shouldn't be-- in most cases. It is low acid & not fibrous as most fruits. Glad your daughter does not have kidney stones at age 13! / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

I couldn't handle watermelon before nor corn that is why I was tickled :) I didn't even see any corn come out either! I just made sure I chewed it up real well.

Judy, I'm glad you made it out ok with the surgery.  But it just stinks that is something that we have to be concerned about ya know?
