Hi...I personally don't think the suppositories are enough med to treat UC symptoms. I see it as more of a maintenance med....
But you do seem to be improving some, which is a good thing.
I would strongly suggest you ask your doc for the next step up which are the retention enemas. You would only need to use them at night.
You should also be on an oral med....I'd suggest a low dosage of Lialda...2 daily should be a good start.
Treating both ends is really the way to go. Your doctor should not stop rectal meds in favour of oral....you should be using both. If she's worried about
the amount of 5ASA...then she can start you on the 2gram dosage of Rowasa...but I say start on the 4 since this has been going on for a while already.
Yes, the colours you're having during bms is partly because of the suppositories mixing with the blood/stool/mucus.
