Hello All:

My name is Mark Tunick and I'm 29yrs old. I currently reside in Atlanta, Ga. I was originally diagnosed with mild left sided UC in 02 after a bout with C-Diff. Everything was fine until 08 when i started having a few minor flares. Fortunately the docs put me on some pred and that cleared me up. However, the pred stopped working about 1 yr ago and i just spent a month stint in the hospital. The colitis was still confined to my left side but it was so bad that they were comtemplating a colectomy if things didn't get better. I received my first infusion of Remicade on Saturday May 16th and i have my 2nd infusion scheduled for this Friday the 29th. Throughout my stay in the hospital i was on 3mg's of ativan and dilauted every 2hrs. I was released from the hospital on Monday the 25th and i feel like i'm slowly on the road to recovery. I have no blood in and my bm's are down to about 5-6 a day. I am back to working 1/2 days at the office and am trying to get my energy levels back up. Any guidance and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Current Meds:
2 Canasa Day
55mg Pred Tapering 5mg week
4 Apriso Day
Remicade Transfusions (2nd to come on Friday the 29th)
Ativan as Needed
Danactive Probiotic

Welcome to the forums!

Dr. Michael Levine was a pretty good GI doc I went to when I lived in marietta. I think he was down on north side of atlanta. He really listened and put me in remission once. Only GI doc to do that.

My GI is Dr Diane Wisebram and she's a great doc! I'm finding out real quick that there is no rhyme or reason to what works for some vs others. It sounds like it's total trial and error. I'm just ready to be back to my normal self again!

Yeah, that part of it really makes it frustrating. You really do just have to try about everything you come across. I am still trying stuff every chance I get.

Welcome! It sounds like the Remicade is working for you! I hope that it gets you in complete remission and keeps you there for a long, long time! And yeah, UC is a tricky disease to treat...it seems that meds work very differently for most of us.
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

I sure hope I'm on the road to recovery! How many infusions of Remicade does it take for most before they start noticing a significant improvement? MY BM's are less frequent and they are starting to become formed. It's a little painful when I go to the bathroom, but there is no blood. I'd like some feedback on Asacol vs. Apriso. When I was in the hospital, i was given Asacol, but now that I'm out I'm back on the Apriso. Any thoughts on which med provides better results?
