Wednesday night I went to bed and woke up multiple times in the night coughing.  I thought, oh great!  I am finally getting what everyone else in my house has had!  Yesterday I did a lot of coughing - wet sounding stuff.  I used MucinexDM and I was able to sleep thru the night fairly ok.  So then I get up this morning and I have coughed a little but now it seems to have gone again.  Yesterday my chest was hurting and it hurt to breath.  But this isn't the first time things like this has happened.  It has happened off and on thru out the past couple years with various symptoms - bad stuffy cold like symptoms to deep chest coughing.  It like I only get sick for a day or two and then poof! Gone!  I've never had this before I am contributing it to the 6mp somehow.  I am not quite sure what is going on.  Has anyone else had things like this while being on an immune suppressor?

I had something similar when I had UC but after many tests the cough was not attributed to 6MP but more to being chronically ill. I would strongly suspect, in your situation, that this is related to allergies.

I'm not on 6MP but I am on Remicade and prednisone and just had an episode like this that landed me in the hospital. If you cough and it hurts to breathe this may be pleurisy,
I definitely think you should check it out. I had a double pneumonia 4 years ago that landed me in the hospital for 7 days and even with that it did not hurt to breathe. If it hurts when
you take a breath, the ER doctor told me that is the classic sign of pleurisy which can be caused by an opportunistic infection or virus due to the immunosuppressors.

This might sound weird first, but when was the last time you have exchanged/cleaned the filters in your air condition? Have the same problems that you describe when I wait too long with air conditioner maintenance. If it persists and you are getting a fever, go see the doctor. But the air condition thing was the first thing that came into mind.

Our AC unit died this year so it's never been on yet. We are the process of putting in a new furnace and AC unit right now. So we have had our windows open - yeah I know allergy heaven! But it wasn't just this time that I have been sick but over the winter too. Sometimes I would even get a bronchitis like bug which lasts for a day or two but I end up with a rash on my torso. Usually after the 3rd or 4th day, poof, it's gone again.

No, this wasn't pleurisy. I had pleurisy almost all thru out my life and it ended approximately 15 years ago. I am quite familiar with pleurisy pain. This was different, like someone was sitting on my chest and at the same time I was sucking in cold air. Today I am much better. Still a mild cough but I never really feel bad with these "mini" infections. It's a more of inconvenience then anything.

I don't think it is related to 6MP Sherry.

Sherry, glad to hear you are feeling better. I'd never heard of pleurisy before 2 weeks ago. If you don't mind me asking, what was the cause of the pleurisy you had many times? Is it just a viral thing? Was it ever bad enough to be hospitalized for? Doctors are still trying to determine if my pleurisy was directly connected to Remicade.

My pleurisy started when I was 4 or 5 years old. I remember crying in pain and my dad taking me to the ER. Since then I had random bouts of it but I was never hospitalized. It just ran it's course and I never really look into it honestly. So I don't know the reason behind mine. It would just happen out of the blue while I wasn't sick.

Ok, nevermind - this isn't a "mini" infection - it's a full blown infection! LOL It came back :( And it's settled in my chest so I guess I will be seeing the doctor tomorrow because I've been coughing up yellow crud. I'm thinking it's bronchitis but here's a question for anyone - if you are exposed to someone with bronchitis, how long does it take for another person to get it? The reason I ask is because my bestfriend was with us last weekend during the holiday and she ended up getting bronchitis. 3 days later I started feeling the first twinges of that cough.

Bronchitis can be miserable! The incubation period is normally 7 to 10 days. I hope you feel better!

Thanks for letting me know about the pleurisy. I had it pretty bad and never heard of anyone having it before!
