Hi Everyone! I have been reading this forum for months, and I decided this afternoon I should go ahead and become and member.

A little about me...I was diagnosed with left sided UC in October 2007. Went into remission after a round of prednisone and Asacol. In January 2009, I had an AWFUL flare start after the death of my grandmother...still trying to nip this one in the bud! On 12 Asacol a day and just started taking Align a couple of days a go. I am feeling better than I have in months! Is it the Align? We'll see... :)

I desperately want to get into remission so my husband and I can try and have another baby. My GI said it would be best if I was in remission for 6 months. We have a 2 1/2 year old daughter right now, but I really want to get as healthy as I can before we try for another.

Again, thanks to all of you for posting such great info! Coming to these boards in the last several months has made me feel not so alone! This disease SUCKS! :)

Welcome to the forum UC Momma! I'm glad that you've decided to post; as you know we are a very supportive group of folks. I too have left sided UC, but am currently in Remi Remission. Could you tell us what Align is? I haven't heard of that med yet! Again, welcome! Glad you joined; I'm sure you will have great advice to share as well.

Welcome!  Glad I had my family before I got this terrible disease.  Hope you can get it under control and add on to your family.

By the way, to whomever ask about Align - it is a probiotic found in most drugstores.  I LOVE IT!  I do believe it controlled my diarrhea when nothing else did.

I hope you can get into remission! My husband and I eventually want another baby (our son is just seven months) and I'm hoping I am in remission when we're ready to try again.

Welcome! This site is great...I'm not sure what I would have done without it when I was first diagnosed.
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa every other night, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Yes, Align is a probiotic that I bought a few days ago in Walgreens. It's a little pricey...$30 for a 28 day supply, but I thought what the heck if it helps. I've read quite a bit about it online, and it seems to help a lot of people with IBS, and I've read a couple of reviews from people with IBD that said it seems to help as well. I've tried several probiotic foods, drinks (i.e. Good Belly, Attune Bars) and the Digestive Advantage supplement. I've gotten some relief from these in the past, but not much has seemed to touch this flare. I've been taking Align for a couple of days, and I honestly have to say that I DO feel better! No blood, less mucous, and LOTS less gas...Oh the lovely symptoms of UC! :)
It's only been a couple of days, so I hate to jinx myself, but I'm crossing my fingers! I'm still taking the Asacol religiously too. I just hate that you have to literally plan your life around your UC. That's always been the hardest thing for me to come to terms with. My husband and I love to hike, ride our bikes, camp, etc. and it just seems like my UC is ALWAYS in the way. We're going camping in a couple of weeks, and the first thing I said to my husband is, "Make sure we're near the bathroom...like right next to it!"

Again, thanks for the warm welcome, and I hope to add some input when I can to these forums! :)
