I've been having a constant discharge of mucus sometimes mixed with blood from my rectum to to point of having to wear pads all the time.  I don't think I've heard of anyone speaking about this before,  wondering if it's a fistula I believe that's a opening in your rectum.

Thank God for this forum and the questions we can ask.

I am not sure about fistulas although I wouldn't be surprised if I have one. I do know that it is pretty normal for someone with UC to have these types of discharge. Mine doesn't happen all day but even if I pass gas, I could pass mucus (gross huh?). It's not fun!!
Diagnosed with mild proctitis in March 2007: Treated with Canasa (as needed)
December 08: Began treating with Asacol 400mg (9/day) + Canasa 2x/day - Anemic
May 09: Off Canasa, taking Asacol (9/day)
Back on Canasa every other night + Asacol (9/day) + Probiotics + Iron
Reducing to 6 Asacol/day + Canasa + Probiotics + Iron - So far so good!!! -SPOKE TOO SOON! Back to 9/day...

I have the same thing, constant leakage. For me, it's due to a recto-vaginal fistual. It's actually right outside the vaginal opening, a little pin-prick hole. Pretty gross! Have you ever had an abscess, or pain that you thoguht was due to a really bad hemmorhoid? If so, it may have been an abscess that burst, which can lead to a fistula. Good lluck with your doctors trying to figure it out- I had mine for over a year before any doctor finally saw it & said "Oh yes, you DO have a fistula!"... Tell me something I didn't know, thanks. And this was my Gyn who diagnosed it- after a cat scan ordered by my GI showed nothing. They're pretty tough to treat. I've just resigned myself to constantly wearing a panty liner- I may look into surgical repair someday, but I figure if I ever need to get my colon removed, it can be fixed at that time. Until then I'll just deal with it. And if by chance I happen to achieve remission, maybe at that time I'd look into surgical repair.

ok, I'm not one for too much information, but......I can feel it when gas comes thru it! That's how I KNEW something wasn't right, when I'm farting thru my vagina! shocked Other than that, no- I don't feel it- I can feel the dampness from leakage, but not the actual fistula. Even when I'm sexually active it doesn't bother me. And the leakage comes & goes with my UC symptoms- the more D I have, the more bathroom trips, the more leakage! On good days, it barely does anything. But on bad days, ugh.... It's much more mentally troublesome than physically- but now, I've had it for so long that I kind of have to laugh. Kind of.

yes... me too!! Just like silkygirl & Eva Lou i cannot even pass gas with full freedom....even when there is no one in the room. Now next few lines are gross!! When ever i feel the pressure to pass gas i pass it slow - my whole concentration on what i am actually passing gas or mucus! I end the gas passing procedure the moment i feel there will be mucus along with gas....next step is to hold the gas till i find the bathroom! OH!! its bad.... i feel the pressure everytime i go for jogging
