At the risk of sounding vain,  I am wondering what effect Remicade has on weight gain and appetite .  I am still struggling with predisone weight gain and am hoping that if the doctors choose remicade as the next course of action that I don't compound the problem.

I am unable to take predisone any longer due to bone issues and have had bad reactions to all other meds.

Please share your experiences.

I am overweight due to overeating on my own, plus pregnancy, plus prednisone. Now that I am on Remicade I don't seem to have any issues with gaining. My only issue now is losing what I have already gained which is tough. I tend to emotionally overeat. I hope this helps. The Remicade has been good to me so far but I am only on my 4th infusion so we shall see if it continues to.
Female, Left-sided colitis diagnosed at age 28 in 2001
Remicade stopped a major flare for me I am now off all meds except the remicade.

I finally lost my pred weight after going on Remi. I felt so much better being on the Remi that I was able to eat the right foods and also exercise on a regular basis. It took about 6 months before I got back down to a more "normal" weight and also before the moonface started to go away. And no, you don't sound vain....I can remember looking at a picture of myself after being on pred and my moon face was awful. I felt horrible for gaining the weight after just taking off 40 lbs. on WW, prior to be dx'd with this...and then having to go on pred only to gain most of it back.

Thank you so much for your input. Can you also tell me if your waist measurements improved, I carry so much weight around my middle , I am sure that a good part of it is caused by inflamation.

Yes, I definitely have the middle thing going on and no matter what I try it stays! I believe it's due to age, but I've just started using the hula hoop during my exercise; I used it years ago and forgot how good it is for whittling the waist away...hopefully it will still work!

No noticeable weight gain on the Remi--just a little from finally being able to eat real foods. Had to work to lose the weight from the Pred., but the Remi does not create an unusual appetite--just a normal one.
