I started 6mp about a month ago and my 1 month dosage was scheduled to end on Wednesday.  I called my GI's office on Wednesday (its now Friday) to get a re-fill on the drug assuming it would be a piece of cake to call the script in t o the pharmacy...thing again.  I still havent heard back from GI or his secratarys and I'm out of my 6mp pills!!! The bad part about it is I had to fly up to NY yesterday.  Luckily both my parents are in the medical field and know a good amount of pharmacists so I was able to get a few pills to hold me over.
I just think it's soooo un-responsive of my GI not to get back to me at all.  Especially because I just started this new med.  I got blood work done for the 6mp a few weeks ago and still havent heard from him about that.

Am I just over reacting or do I have a point here?

Well, you *should* have called earlier than the day you were going to run out of pills for your refill, but your GI also should have responded to your phone call by now. Call again.
Status: Remission since late May 2009!
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa twice weekly, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

I agree about calling in earlier....but doesn't the pharmacy usually call for refills if you request it?

Awesome about your parents' pull to get you some meds...

Any other meds you need refills on? maybe the doc can call in multiple refills especially since it's coming on the time of year many doctors go on holiday...

Try going to a pharmacy (ideally one in a chain that has your past prescriptions in their computer) and asking for an emergency refill without an rx, with proof of identity matching the old bottle... they may give you enough for a couple of days. Also, the dr's office should have an emergency doc on call who could then fax or phone in an emergency rx to tide you over.
Pancolitis >20 years, allergic to all 5ASAs
(To pharma: enough already with the umpteen variants of Asacol!)
Tried everything under the sun (natural and alternative)
Some partial success with TSO but was too expensive to keep up
Remicade Humira, lots of probiotics, entocort, tapering pred again, maybe surgery this year

My doctor says right on her answering machine that if you are out of drug, call the pharmacy.
Then the pharmacy contacts the doctor's office, gets the refill approved, and fills it.

That's the way it is done now. It's easy, try it.

We get our prescriptions at Walgreen's and they have an automatic refill system.  Ask about it.

The pharmacist will most likely give you enough to get you into next week. They have always done that for me, whenever I forgot to call the GI to get the refill on a weekend.
