Hey Everyone,

I'm in a flare up, and my doctor has been giving me Solu Medrol infusions. They seemed to get me about 75% back to normal, but I hit a wall. After 5 injections Im still bleeding heavily, and in pain during BM's. So my doctor is gonna try a few more injections. If it hasn't helped he wants to hospitalize me and try out the serious treatment options. Ive had UC for 10 years now, so Im coming to the end of the line. It appears that my condition has now decided to not respond to the usual 6MP, Prednisone, and Asacol oral meds. So if the liquid steroids dont work, within a few days Ill actually hospitalize myself.

Now what I wanted to know is what drug my doctor is planning on trying. He told me on the phone, but I didnt write it down. I guess its an alternative to Remicade, and he believes people respond better to it. Its hard to find good information since UC is such an obscure disease. So my question to our beloved community is what are some of the other injectible treatment options?

Sadly, if this doesnt work, it looks like surgery is going to be my only option at this point. Amazingly, my current flare is the least of all my past ones. In fact Im able to work just fine, and deal with it pretty well. But the continued blood loss makes it so I cant look past it any longer.

Thanks everyone.
John

Likely it's Humira. It is still considered an investigational drug, so be sure to pre-certify it with your insurer. It does work better for some people, while Remicade works better for others.

Good luck with your treatment, John. The biologicals (Remi and Humira) have been miracle drugs for some of us.)

Yeah, the Humira might be it. Im looking on their site now, and it talks alot about TB infections. I know my doctor is planning on having some TB tests done today.
