My doctor recently prescribe this drug.  I'm about to start it now and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it.  It is supposed to help my ulcerative colitis.  I was hospitalized for 5 days   2 weeks ago because of a really really bad flare up.   I'm currently being weened off Prensone...last week was 80 mg...this week is 60 mg.   In addition to that I take 3 Lialdas.

I actually have an appt with a holistic nurtionist in a few weeks too.

Please  if anyone has taken this drug  let me know  info.....

The doctor said it takes at least 4 weeks to work....I will  take one pill a day for the first 2 weeks and then 2 pills daily.....for THREE years.....
My blood needs to be checked frequently  too bc of white blood cell count could go too low....

I'm not on it, but there are a lot of people on here who are. Your doctor is right that it will take at least that long to work and for some people, it takes even longer. It's good that you are on the prednisone while you're starting it. Why the three years? Most people are on it indifinitely (forever, until it quits working, until they can't tolerate it, etc) once they start. I've never heard of someone knowing that they'll only be on it for a set period of time.
Status: Remission since late May 2009!
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa twice weekly, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

There's a link to a really good article in the second post from the top of the page (it's a "sticky" post that always stays there), which is titled "Recources for UC" or something like that that discusses pregnancy in IBD patients. It talks about medicines and how safe (or not) they are during pregnancy.
