Hey everyone!

I just wanted to type a quick post and tell you guys about my doctor's apt today. Let me know what you think:

1. I get to taper the Prednisone! I am so glad. I went down to 30 mgs today (from 40 since May 20th). in one week, I'll go to 20, then down 5 each week. (I don't know, after I am on 5 for a week, do I just quit? I'll have to call and ask him about that)

2. I am going to switch after tomorrow from 3 Asacol 3 x per day to 4 Apriso once per day.

3. He drew some blood today for a TPMT test. He is going to use that to determine how much Azathiorpine I should take. I haven't heard people talk about that drug on this forum yet. What is is? He told me "it's a cousin in 6-MP" I so do not really understand drugs. From what I see on google, it is broken down in the body to 6-MP? I will have to have my blood drawn every 2 weeks at first (A CBC to see in my white blood cell count is down I think he said).

Well, I guess that's my update. Hopefully I'll sleep tonight with 10 mgs less prednisone today!

Hi....I hope you improve quickly on the new meds.

Regarding the lower dosage of pred when you get there...you can alternate dosages...5, 2.5, 5, 2.5, .... 2.5, 2.5, 2.5.....and maybe you'll have to divide that??? if you're having symptoms.

The other option is to add a rectal med as well....maybe a steroid one to help with your taper....but I would think that a 5ASA would be best to start when you're tapering anyway..

Aza is Imuran. It'll also help you get off pred (how I understand it).

Keep us posted as to how you're doing..
