Hello all..I am a new member and for the past few months have been browsing the forums and found a lot of information and tips that helped me talk to my GI about different medications.  It seemed like Asacol, Pentasa, Salofalk..nothing was working and my GI was urging me to try Imuran & Remicade, which I kept pushing off.  Finally 2 weeks ago, he prescribed Mezavent, 3 pills to be taken all at once.  The same day that I started Mezavent, I also started eating a piece of fresh turmeric root...Well...wonders - from Day 1, the cramps, the gas, mucous, all disappeared, and I am delighted to say I have at the most 1-2 almost normal bowel movements, no mucous, blood, still some pain, but I feel a new person..getting better each day, and am able to eat all foods.....Dont know what's working - the turmeric or the Mezavent!!!  Thanks to all you fellow UC sufferers for sharing your experiences..and wish everyone well.

Proctitis 1992-Asacol, Prednisone
1995-Cold turkey all meds - went in remission
2008-Mild/Moderate Pancolitis-Salofalk, Pentasa
Currently Mezavent, Raw Turmeric

Hi..welcome to the forum..great you're feeling better.

Were any of the above meds rectal or just oral?
What were the dosages of the above meds daily?

If just oral...I suggest rectal as well as the oral.

I'd keep on with the turmeric, I find it helpful. You can also get caps. Also, if you have to try Imuran at some point, try not to panic! It's not all bad. Acutally, not bad at all for me =)

I would add a good probitoic and fibre supplements to your regime, both can offer great benefits in relieving/aiding IBD symptoms.

Definitely can vouch for fibre - plain psyllium husk powder works really well.
23 years of UC which started after quitting smoking. In and out of flares which are usually triggered by antibiotics. Latest issue is endless diarrhea without blood or mucous.

Currently off all meds and probiotics. Using grapefruit seed extract, iron supplement, calcium, and psyllium seed powder with good effect.

Yes, the rectal med I would suggest to you is the Salofalk retention enema.
