waiting for blood test to see if i can start imuran
mesalazine granules 3g x1 a day (much nicer than a million tablets a day)
just finished 3 months of prednisolone (worked) and now back on 40mg a day (ick)
quercertin tablets, tumeric capsules, vitamin d3, enteric coated fish oil

have you found out why this is happening? Did you talk with the doctor about it and maybe it's time you had an upper scope series done.

Hiatal hernias can cause that I believe...

ARe you nauseated or is it because of pain/pressure?

my doc said that intense belly pain can cause nausea and vomiting. everything is fine in upper end.
its a pain thing.
i was nauseaus for the last few weeks anyway, and i get teh gag reflex going on when i even think about swallowing pills. but i think the nauseausness was due to that viscous cycle of not eating and feeling sick cuz ur hungry etc...

but now i just puke when the pain is super intense.
its not much, cuz i dont eat much. mostly liquid. but still unpleasant.

i was actually thinking yesterday, that maybe its starting to be habit a little bit. i am maybe subconsciously associating pain and puking, therefore whether or not i need to, i just puke anyway. does that make sense.

i dont puke 100% of the time, but it is a good 80% for sure.

i will ask doc about the hiatial hernia thing.
but he did assure me that it is not uncommon to vomit from intense belly pain. and alll my symptoms are in line with a severe flare.

Hi..you may be on the right track regarding it being a habit for your body to react. As well...since you're on liquids, your digestive tract doesn't have to work so hard.

You might want to consider asking the doctor for antinausea med patches to use to help with that sensation...plus maybe pain med patches or liquids so that you don't have to take pills.

Just a thought.....it seems maybe colon removal could be a viable option for you?

Hope you're putting off conception for a long while....

I see you were on Pred, and you say it worked, but are now back on it again. Is this from not smoking? were you smoking when you were on Pred the first time?
Ulcerative proctitis. On Asacol 3 3x a day, and Meslamine enemas nightly.
Now on Hydrocortisone suppositories for 2 weeks
Doc now has me on prescription Pepcid, and Questran. Just started that 05/15, so will wait and see.
Urgency is still my biggest problem, and extreme gas.  Blood is now gone.

sick and tired...of insurance companies making decisions instead of my doctor.
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering. Asacol maintenance for 20+ years; used prednisone & Rowasa for flares.  Probiotics (Ultimate Flora, 50 billion), salmon oil (omega-3) when I can remember.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; eliminated wheat/gluten from my diet.
Bad flare in March, used prednisone. Humira denied, started Remicade 4/12 and doing great~ learning what normal is~ wow

Kazygirl. If you smoked to curb the UC symptoms, why were you on Pred when smoking? Maybe I'm not understanding this right.

Vomiting is a symptom of UC and I am surprised more GIs don't know this. I vomited my entire last 2 years with a colon. The only doctor I met that actually had vomiting listed as a symptom of UC on his wall chart was my surgeon! Sometimes I think he understood the disease more than my GI. Just be cautious to keep hydrated and do have an upper bowel scan to rule out Crohn's.

Sue
dx proctitis in 1987
dx UC in 1991, was stable until 1998

1998 started prednisone, asacol, pentasa, nortriptylene, ativan, 6MP, rowasa enemas and suppositories, hydrocortisone enemas, tried the SCD diet, being a vegetarian, omega 3s, flax, pranic healing, yoga, acupuncture, probiotics

2000 lost all my B-12 stores and became anemic

2001 opted for j-pouch surgery- now living life med-free

Yeah, my worst symptom for over a year was vomiting to the point of not even being able to keep water down. I had all the other symptoms, too, but I could deal with those. I couldn't deal with not being able to eat and losing 40 pounds in 2 months. I don't have it as bad now but I do still do it pretty frequently. My GI doctor never mentions it and focuses more on the other stuff. As I was diagnosed while pregnant (even though I had symptoms for a full year prior, including the severe vomiting), the doctors have all blamed it on the pregnancy, as well.
