I have noticed that depending on the kind of surgery, regions on institutions have the reputation of "performing the best job." Example, a friend of mine was referred by her doctor to Indiana University Hospital for a pancreatitis operation because he said they were the specialists of that particular surgery.

Is that true for also concerning getting a J-Pouch operation? Is there a particular "doctor" or "institution" that has a reputation for doing a high quality job.......OR.....is this operation like getting your tonsils out.....anybody can do it right as long as they are board certified with experience.

Please give me your thoughts J-Pouch People!!!! smilewinkgrin

The Cleveland Clinic and the Mayo in MN have outstanding reputations for the jpouch surgery but if you don't live near them there are TONS of highly capable and experienced CR surgeons around the US who do the surgery. I live in a small town and opted to go to the city for my surgery in California. My surgeon has done over 2000 jpouches and does the surgery in under 2 hours (a 7 hour surgery for many surgeons) so don't think you have to travel too far. The best place to get surgeon recommendations in your area is to visit www.j-pouch.org There's a thread on Best Surgeons in America and chances are you can find a surgeon/hospital close to you.
