just thought i would pass this along.....it has worked well for me.....when you have a bm, try propping you feet up on something which raises your knees toward your chest.....i use a little trash can we keep by the toilets, it always helps things come out quicker and easier.....it almost puts you in a squatted position, though you are sitting.  Guys just make sure to watch your aim in this position.....can change the firing position somewhat.....if some of you try it, give me some feedback.  I hope it works as well for you as for me.....lets everything out without having to push.

If you have to push exhale when doing so to prevent straining.

this totally helps, & it's actually a biological theory- you figure, the human body evolved to have a bm while squatting. Then along came toilets, which are much more comfy than squatting, but not near as efficient on the body regarding getting things out smoothly! Raising your feet simulates the squatting position, which makes it easier to have a bm, less straining, etc. Nice call, lucas! There is some proponent of a raw food diet that also pushes this position, I forget who.....

Someone once told me that you can stand on the toilet seat and squat over the toilet. Sounds crazy to me but I guess there are people out there who do this.
Diagnosed with mild proctitis in March 2007: Treated with Canasa (as needed)
December 08: Began treating with Asacol 400mg (9/day) + Canasa 2x/day - Anemic
May 09: Off Canasa, taking Asacol (9/day)
Back on Canasa every other night + Asacol (9/day) + Probiotics + Iron
Reducing to 6 Asacol/day + Canasa + Probiotics + Iron - So far so good!!! -SPOKE TOO SOON! Back to 9/day...

Amazes me that anyone with UC has to strain.  Maybe someday I will but that would be different for me for sure.  I only have D and loose or normal - no problems there - thank goodness.  ElaineNY

They should have just continued making all toilets small, like the ones found in elementary schools, when I used to have to go for parent/teacher interveiws and used those little toilets I always felt like I got more of a complete evacuation. Mind you, could you imagine how awkward that would be for those that are like 6 feet and taller LOL! Their knees would be up past their ears LOL!

:)
My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)
