Hi all, confused
Hope ye are all keeping well, havent been posting for a while now busy with exams, kids etc.  Have seen my GI since last posting and he wants to do another colonoscopy on Wednesday. Have been having alot of discomfort down left side of abdomen with over two weeks now as well as mucous, fatigue etc. Anyway I had to take my first dose of picolax this evening, have started having results but the pain in left side have got alot worse(Pain is from just under rib cage down to groin). Has any else experienced this,I did not experience this in when preparing for previous colonoscopy, only cramping.

I've never taken picolax, but I would suspect any type of discomfort that is caused by inflammation or spasming would only be increased by the purge.

What did you use in the past....picolax or another one?

Do, however, call the doc today and let him know if it worsens.

Are you having lots of gas at this point? Maybe after you're completely cleaned out, you will have some relief.

Is your UC throughout?'

You might ask your doc for some rectal meds .... treating both ends really helps.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks Quincy for your reply, I still haven't got a full diagnosis, biopsies taken during colonoscopy done last October by surgeon showed mild to moderate colitis (colon looked okay at time of colonoscopy but was not having symptoms at that time), when I do have symptoms the pain and discomfort is all down left side from under ribcage to groin so he suspects it may be left sided colitis. Previous colonoscopy I had proctitis. Have been referred to GI and he has decided to repeat colonoscopy which is tomorrow.

Used Klean prep for first colonoscopy but used picolax last time had some cramping with both, but this time as well as cramping the pain is very bad all down left side and gets worse after bowel motion which is very regular have taken second picolax this morning and have another one to take this evening. Spent the night awake with the pain. Did have some pain and discomfort before taking picolax.

I did have alot of of gurgling and gas down the left side last nite but that has settled now but pain is just as bad even worse at times.

(Have family history of crohn's so that has not totally been ruled out yet)

It'll be good to get a final diagnosis. Is a surgeon doing the c-scope or a GI?

I can relate to that type of pain....I do have reflux..and the fact that you're on Nexium may be part of the discomfort.

Have you been checked for h.pylori? Maybe put it on your list.

As well...maybe you should request an upper scope as well eventually to rule out any upper gastro problemos.

Hi Quincy,

GI done the scope this time (Yesterday). Results: Inflamation in rectum and lower colon with a bad ulcerated area just above rectum. Have taken alot of biopsies which GI hopes will help him diagnose between UC or Crohn's Colitis. He seems to think it is most probably UC confined to left side as the rest of colon looked mormal. He has changed my oral meds to Mesalazine and put me on rectal meds-Predfoam.

Have had a few upper scopes. I have a hiatus hernia and suffer from gastritis (hence the nexium)with about 9yrs or more,  I seem to find that when the colitis flares the gastritis gets worse.

Have been checked for h-pylori last October and that was negative, one less thing to worry about.

Thank you very much for your replies they were a great help.

Great to hear the scope is finished and that you're on new meds to try.

Keep us posted as to how you're doing.

When do you see the doc next for biopsy results!

You could ask the doc for an antispasmodic....helps immensely for the cramping. I use dicyclomine (Bentylol). started out with 10mg for 15 years and eventually to 20mg. I would suggest the lower dosage, at leastyou can double if necessary.

As well...fibre supplements might give you some relief...although not without some adjustment discomfort, but one has to do it gradually.
