The other day I had to go to the bathroom and essentially pooped what looked like a compost pile-the bm looked like a bunch of sticks and particles in loosely associated clumps.

I was wondering if this was normal (ish) or could be signaling the start of a flare. I've been going a bit more often than usual (2-3 times a day) over the past few days, as well. There's no blood, though I have been having a little bit of pain.

Yeah, with frequency and extremely loose, you could be heading toward a flare...unless you've been eating more fruits and veggies lately?

I get those from time to time too while being in remission. I'm not sure why though.
I hope it isn't a flare!

quincy- I WAS eating more salad and high fiber bread when I was at my boyfriend's over the weekend, so maybe it's that.

I guess I see how I'm feeling in a few days, if I keep getting frequency I'll probably call my GI.

My guess is it was the salad not being digested completely. Raw veggies are hard to digest.

Yes, if you do get frequency over the next few days, I'd say flare...which would be higher than just the rectum.

Curious if you were having some constipation over the past few weeks before this started?

You should, however, request rectal meds if in fact it is a flare....

I don't think I was having constipation, but my doc suggested I might be if I had some cramping or gas (which I was, a little bit).

or...it could just be the food....definitely keep an eye on it and maybe you might want to consider adding a fibre supplement such as metamucil (I use the capsules). It will add the bulk to the fibre you're already consuming, therefore creating a stool thats more formed...there are many kinds of fibre..good to take various kinds.

Keep us posted as to how you're doing.
