So I have c. diff. Confirmed this morning. Since I'm pregnant he wants to take the most agressive approach and am being treated with vancomycin every 6 hours for 14 days. I asked about taking a probitoic. HE said that he spoke with one of the doctors on staff who is a world reknowned regarding this disease. And he said that this doctor didn't seem to think there was much proof that probiotics did much of anything during treatment. I wondered if anyone else has dealt with this and what they did regarding taking a probiotic.
I've never had c. diff before and its honestly worse than any flare I have ever experienced. Wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy!

My opinion is that the probiotics will definitely NOT hurt anything, so go ahead and take them anyway. I guess I'd take them halfway between doses of your antibiotic to give them a small chance of surviving.
Status: Remission since late May 2009!
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Diagnosed with pancolitis on 1/30/09
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa twice weekly, Natural Factors Ultimate probiotic 12/12 Formula, and Zoloft (25 mg).

Great thanks for the info. And a great idea about spacing them between my antibiotic doses. NEver would have thought of that!
