So I've been in a flare for about 4 days & the Dr told me to take Entocort (3-3mg pills a day). I've never had to take this before and I'm a bit worried. Can anyone give me info on how well this med works, side effects, etc?

Thanks

I have been on entocort for several times and it really gives me no side effects I have noticed. I have been on it 2 weeks this time and it seems to not be working at all, though - maybe I have developed a tolerance for it or something...
23 years of UC which started after quitting smoking. In and out of flares which are usually triggered by antibiotics. Latest issue is endless diarrhea without blood or mucous.

Entocort is a steroid, like Prednisone. It's intended to release the medication in the colon, so it isn't absorbed into the system and is less likely to produce side effects. Be aware that this isn't always the case; you could develop side effects similar to those of Pred if you take Entocort for an extended period.

Most people have few to no side effects from Entocort, even though some of us are less lucky.

Thanks for responding. I'm taking my first dose this morning. listened to this lecture from CCFA about meds and it helped me to make the decision. It was called Balancing the Risks & Treatment Benefits. Here's the link for anyone that may want to check it out: http://www.rmei.com/CCFA139VL/

I had a few side effects from Entocort, but nothing that couldn't be managed. It has not worked for me though. Good luck and I hope you have better results.

Its been a few days and I feel a bit less weak, but still have  on and off. The BMs in the morning are formed, but as I eat during the day it's D. hoping this kicks in soon. If it doesn't work, I don't want to go to Pred. I am seriously considering SCD.

Entocort has been the most effective medication I've used so far aside from prednisone.
