Hello all. I have been having trouble getting out of this flare. It has been going on a yr since I had a sinus infection last June. I am close to kicking it but just can't seem to get over the hump. When I was taking Asacol from May 98 till May of 2008, then due to Insurance issues I was switched to Generic Colazal. I have not been quite the same since I was switched. When ever I had problems before I just took my Asacol and Rowasa ennamas. Now, I take Generic Colazal, and tried Generic rowasa. The generic enemas make me bleed more and make me feel like crap. I have new insurance now and my co-pay for Asacol is only $50 which I can afford. When I go to my apt tomorrow, should I ask to be put back on Asacol? I was pretty much in remission for almost the whole time I was on Asacol. Also, since the Generic Rowasa kills me, what do you think about asking to get put on Hydro rocortizone enammas? I am getting ready to start my vacation with my kids and don't want to be stuck inside all summer. Any input would be helpful.

I wont go on that. I don't want to use anything too strong, drug wise. If it gets to the point where I have to go on strong meds, I will look into surgery.

I think I'd ask to be put back on it, if it works better.

The generic Colazal made me sick-- so I would definitely advise you to get off it if it's not helping you. Several members posting here have also reported problems with it. Same thing with generic Rowasa: there was a long thread started by Trixy toward the end of 2008 where she & other members wrote about going back on original Rowasa due to poor results from using the generic. I had a terrible experience in March when the generic Rowasa really did make my flare worse & my gastro said to stop using it. Your doctor would likely put you back on Asacol if you tell him what's been happening to you with the generics. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Yeah, I don't think he'll have any problems putting me back on Asacol. I am having about 5-10 BM a day, with some urgency during the day. I have 2-3 within the first 1hr or so once I wake up. I get better as the day goes on. I have some blood through out the day and that's why I'm thinking I'd like to try the hydrocortizone enemas. I can't afford name brand Rowasa, but I'm thinking I need to use something to stop the bleeding. Has anyone had any luck with these?
