I'm think I need to start Bentylol my cramps in the morning puts so much pressure on my rectum when I go to the bathroom that I'm afraid I'm going to get another fissure. When should I take Bentylol since morning time is my worst time of the day for the bathroom. Is it fast working? Will I feel tired?
Thank you
Very mild left sided (could have fooled me with the "mild")  UC. Started LDN ON 1/25/09, stopped LDN on 5/1/09 didn't seem to help. Supplements: Probiotics, Cipro antibiotics 4/29 for 8 days seems to be helping, no bleeding right now, advanced inflammation control

You may feel a bit "out of it", more mellow and relaxed. What dosage are you using?

You could take the Bentylol as soon as you wake-up, it should take about a half hour to feel its effects.

The other thing is you can take it at bedtime.

Are you using the steroid enemas or supps?

Its a capsule I think 10mg, so I will take it at night hopefully it will help in the AM, I'm taking when I go to bed tonight. I really need help in the AM or I'm going to get a fissure again, 2 of them in 6 months and they are a killer!

I have a fissure as well, but it's never been bad. I do rip it open from agressive wiping, but only a few times it's been exacerbated from the external hemmie and a flare.

Do use external medication or even zinc ointment if you can to help protect and heal the skin...as well...any fibre supplements you can consider to take to help with bms?

Let me know how the Bentylol works for you....it's a start.

Hi Heather,

I took a Bently before bed and one when I got up this morning. My docs says take 4 a day, but they make me tired. I noticed my stool today was a brown normal color not yellow like I have been having. Is Bently like Lomotil, it's just slowing the gut down? Can I take them both near the same time?

Thanks Linda

I take both mine at the same time.
Ulcerative proctitis. On Asacol 3 3x a day,  Started Meslamine enemas nightly again.
Doc now has me on prescription Pepcid, and  Questran.  Just started that 05/15, so will wait and see.
Update: Questran made me worse, so I stopped taking it.

Urgency is still my biggest problem.  Blood is now gone.

Lomotil and Bentyl? I was stoned on lomotil, but the doc at that time probably gave me a high dosage.

You could try it...and take them earlier in the evening if they make you tired. That's why I suggested to take the Bentyl at night.
