As it has been very hot here in England for the last few days we have been eating a lot of salads so i dont have to cook but now im starting to get bad stomach pains and bms have become much looser and more often have already been 4x and have a constant feeling of wanting to go,not good as i have not long finished pred for a nasty flare im not going to eat salad today and see what happens i hpoe it is just that and not the start of another flare so soon does anyone else have issues with salad back to veg for now.

What sort of lettuce are you using? If you are using iceburg that can be the problem. I can't eat salads with iceburg lettuce at all or it gives me the same symptoms as you. So if at all possible, use Romaine lettuce to see if you can tolerate that better.

Are you actively flaring? If you are, a lot of fiber can make it worse.

And I agree with red, try changing the type of greens you use (spinach salads do pretty good for me, or baby romaine).

yes! try Romaine lettuce. What all do u put in your salad....Cucumber & Onion give me problem. Try baby spinach, Romaine lettuce, little tomatoes .... i think these r good. i also add apple pieces also sometimes. Avoid iceberg lettuce as many seem to have problem with it. i would say try Romaine lettuce first and if it does not give you problem add another veggi to it after trying for 2 days...then 3rd after another 2 days...this way you will be able to find out what gives you problem... just cut that problem causing veggi from your salad list.

Also try to eat some good bread etc before the salad...sometimes if you put something easier to digest in your stomach first it really helps tolerate the other.

OY...talking about salads.  I have been flaring for over a month now and being very good about my diet.  Well, Monday, I had such a craving for a salad, so I dared to eat just a tad....BIG MISTAKE!!  I ate the salad, grilled tilapia and soft green beans.  Well, three hours later...va vooom....salad decided to make its debut out of my rectum, with lots of encores.  Never got off the pot till midnight.  NEVER AGAIN!!!!!  LOL !  Oh when will I ever learn?

I went years without eating salad while I was flaring. Now that I'm in remission for three years, I can eat salad within reason. Still, if I live on salad as I might like to in the summer, I'll have cramping and loose stools.

Remember that a lot of us also have a touch of IBS, and too much fiber can make that kick in.

I started feeling worse recently and when I went in to see my doc/naturopath, she said uncooked greens can be really problematic for people with UC. I was eating a lot of salads, but since I cut out salad greens and raw spinach completely, I am already feeling better. (Might start re-introducing raw greens once I feel healthier.) It's still possible to have great salads -- just need to be a bit more creative! Today I tried a cold rice noodle salad and it was really good!

Salads usually get to me too. Doesn't matter on the lettuce either.

When I was flaring, I could not eat salad at all. My friend kept telling me to eat spinach, as it would help with the fatigue... The spinach went right through me, came out the other end looking the same as when I swallowed it. Beyond gross.

Now that I'm remission I can eat it until the cows come home (whenever that is).
