Hello all, its been a while since i've posted.
Most of us UC sufferers have been experiencing joint pain and i have been in the boat for about 3 years now.
Starting with just back pain, its moved to my knee ribs etc. Which i have been told that is common in a condition called anklosing spondyitis, which im told i have :(
However recently i've been having hip pain for 3weeks now and finding it hard to move around, sleep etc does anyone know if this is common with this condition? or could be something else? Im really worried after reading a post on "not to take prednisolone" and the effects it has of causing avascular nercrosis. I dont know if there is reason to worry, but does anyone know more about this conditon, and how it can be diagnosed for sure.

** I just added a subject for you ;-)

Hi Mia,
Just wanted to make a quick repy to you. My daughter took pred for 4 months (highest tapered dose 90 mg) and now has osteonecrosis (aka avascular necrois) in 9 joints. Hers started as knee pain...her knees would click when she stood and sat down...long story short, the best thing to do is go armed with a your history of Pred use and request an MRI of any joint that is especially bothersome (it will not show up on xray in the early stages). Better safe than sorry...and if you find it early, you may be a good candidate for joint sparing core decompressions (which my daughter has had in all 9 joints). Let me know if I can help any further.
20 yo daughter w/ Pancolitis
diagnosed 8/30/06
Step 1 colectomy/jpouch creation 11/27/06
Step 2 takedown 2/9/07
21 yo Daughter diagnosed with right shoulder, bilateral wrist,
bilateral elbow, bilateral knee, and bilateral ankle avascular necrosis
(aka Osteonecrosis) as a result of Prednisone use
