Any ideas on how to combat nausea?! I originally suffered with it when starting on Azathioprine 8 weeks ago but it seemed to go after about 3 weeks, I now have it back again and its bad this time, I've only eaten 2 proper meals in a week, and am having to force myself to eat bits and pieces like toast/soup in the meantime. I just have no appetite whatsoever and feel sick after eating most things, and I'm beginning to lose weight again. I don't know whether it is the Pred, the Azathioprine or simply to do with me beginning to flare again but I just wondered what are the best things to try and eat, or do to make this more bearable?!

I wish I had an answer. Have you called your doctor? Sometimes they can give you meds to combat nausea. THere is one med I have taken and it works. I forget the name though, sorry. It kind of knocks you out though. Good luck.

Try taking compazine. You will need an RX for it.

Agreed. This is what I take. It can make you sleepy so you may start with 1/2 a pill and see if that does the trick.

My doc gave me Phenergan. It does make you sleepy but it's better than throwing up!

FYI, the nausea and vomiting was my first clue that I had C.Diff on top of my UC. Just something to keep in mind. I had been sort-of nauseous with a flare before, but not like that. I mention it because your signature shows that you were in the hospital earlier this year, which is usually where it is picked up. C.Diff spores can live for months in your colon before they are 'activated.' If you spike a fever or get progressively worse, I'd definitely get it checked. Better safe than sorry!
Renee
Diagnosed w/ UC in August 2007
Was in remission for almost one year (using only Lialda 4xday)
Rowasa and Canasa did not work.
Current status: In Flare since May 2009

4 Lialda/day maintenance, healthy diet
Starting Colal-Pred trial May 18, 2009, ended when hospitalized two weeks later. Also diagnosed with C. Diff while in hospital.
Currently taking Vancomycin, 60mg Prednisone (start tapering soon) and doc wants to discuss MP6.

For nausea eat fresh ginger, why take more RX when something natural will not only likely work better but also be healthy for you.

Thankyou everyone for your replies.

fitmom00 - I don't want anything else wrong with me haha! I have struggled with nausea since being diagnosed with UC 18months ago, but you're right in that its got a lot worse recently (so yer - since coming out of hospital.) I go back to the the gastro clinic at the hospital in 2 weeks so I guess I'll just hold out til then and see what they say.

Thanks also to everyone who advised on different types of anti sickness meds, my GP had given me Motilium when I started the Azathioprine but it doesn't seem to be working any longer. I'm now trying Pepto Bismol tablets, but they're not having a huge affect either. Those ones you all mentioned - do you know if I can get them in the UK?
