Son had his follow up appointment from his colonoscopy last week. Biopsies say UC (same as last time). Doctor said we could taper the prednisone pretty much as we wanted - I love that about him and hate that about him. He leaves alot of the decisions up to us. He recommended 40 for a week 30 for a week, 20 for a week and from there we can decide - I think we'll drop by 5, then 2.5, etc depending on how things are going.

Doctor upped his Azasan (azathioprine) to 100mg from 75mg.

Son has regained 5 of the 10 lbs. he had lost. Also, doctor gave the okay to go to camp in Colorado the week of July 18-25 if his labs look okay next week. Son is down to 2 trips per day, almost formed and no blood! Hopefully will be even better by then!!

Today is the 7th anniversary of my son's diagnosis. I know that he had it at least 2 years prior as both summers before he had bouts of bloody diarrhea and I would call the ped. and they would just say it is almost never blood, just something he ate or a virus was going around, even said it could last 2 or more weeks...Hind sight is 20/20.

My 10 year old daughter is doing MUCH better! She dropped to 20mg Pred per day and is now much less wired! I slept with her the first night she started Pred at 40 and the poor child could hardly lay still even in her sleep. She seems better able to rest now. We will talk to her doctor again on Monday for the remaining weaning instructions for her. It was absolutely amazing how fast the Prednisone worked for her - literally in hours we saw improvement - love it and hate it!!!

Glad to hear things are going relatively well for both kids! Yes, the last time I took pred for a minor flare, it was like flipping a switch. I felt better almost immediately.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999. Have been in remission for years with only a few minor blips. Scope on 6/22 showed no inflammation at all.
Maintenance dose sulfasalazine. Probiotics, vitamin D, fiber supplement and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice and l-glutamine for gut healing. Mostly grain-free and dairy-free low carb diet.
