What more can I do?  Already been to the pot eight times and it is only 8:30 am.  Feel weak and tired.   Only slept four hours.  I guess I should be grateful for small accomplishment...formed stools, although narrow and filling the bowl.  How can one have so much poop in them? rolleyes    Meds: Colazal (nine a day), prednisone 20 mgm and holding at that for two weeks already down from 30 mgm, Flagyl ( 1 tab 3 x a day), 6MP 100 mgm per day, Cort enemas a.m. and p.m., probiotic, fish oil, Calcium and multivitamin and Toprol xl and Benicar for blood pressure.

Poor thing. I don't know what to say, I know how hopeless you can feel when you're flaring badly and constantly running to the toilet. I remember when I was in a bad flare I was always wondering where all the poo came from. I didn't eat to try to stop it from happening so often but it didn't help too much. I would still run to the bathroom to pass blood often. I hope you are feeling better soon. You may have to increase the dose of pred shakehead What are you going to do? Why are you on Flagyl?
Diagnosed with mild proctitis in March 2007: Treated with Canasa (as needed)
December 08: Began treating with Asacol 400mg (9/day) + Canasa 2x/day - Anemic
May 09: Off Canasa, taking Asacol (9/day)
Back on Canasa every other night + Asacol (9/day) + Probiotics + Iron
Reducing to 6 Asacol/day + Canasa + Probiotics + Iron - So far so good!!! -SPOKE TOO SOON! Back to 9/day...

You might try a predigested, liquid diet to give your colon a chance to rest and heal.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999. Have been in remission for years with only a few minor blips. Scope on 6/22 showed no inflammation at all.

Maintenance dose sulfasalazine. Probiotics, vitamin D, fiber supplement and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice and l-glutamine for gut healing. Mostly grain-free and dairy-free low carb diet.

I don't have any predigested stuff here.  All I have is Ensure.  My bowels have calmed down after about the tenth movement.  I do have cramping, which is unusual for me...I never get cramps...could be the inflammation has traveled.  Doc told me to go on the Flagyl for a week.  Maybe that is causing the increased bowel movements....never gave that one a thought.  No one is in the office now and the doctor they have covering is a real moron.  I think they just use him when no one else is around.

GEE, Christine - sorry to hear about all your problems AGAIN - after doing so well.  The flagyl definitely gave me diarrhea once when I was first diagnosed.  Just my experience.  AND you know my luck with 6 MP - NONE!

If me, I certainly would hope to talk to a doctor or NP or someone who could help.  AND I would be taking Imodium but that does not help everyone - just to get past the trips to the bathroom until I got help!

Hugs, ElaineNY

How frustrating. Well, you probably know I'm doing GREAT on Remicade. Do you think you would/could try it??
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering. Asacol maintenance for 20+ years; used prednisone & Rowasa for flares.  Probiotics (Ultimate Flora, 50 billion), salmon oil (omega-3) when I can remember.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; eliminated wheat/gluten from my diet.
Bad flare in March, used prednisone. Humira denied, started Remicade 4/12 and doing great~ learning what normal is~ wow

I hope you are doing better today!

Remicade sounds good but I know you have a reason for not trying it.  I know too that my new doctor who has over 30 years experience said it is too risky for us over 60!  He said too much risk for infections, etc.  He did not elaborate.

The rectal meds are working for me it looks like but not able to do three times a day very often - lucky to do twice.  They are a nuisance to use and messy for me anyway.  Very hard to keep in unless I can go to bed - lay still for at least 1/2 hour - that is hard to do 3 times a day.  And I have quite a bit of gas - oooppppsss!!

Hang in there Christine!

Hi Christine,

Sorry you are not feeling well. With respect to the large amount of stool, get this too even when feeling well, but I do eat quite a bit. Is it your UC that is causing all this or could you also have IBS...I think before you try anything stronger pleae make sure it's your UC not IBS. Please feel better : )

Flagyl really messed w/ my stomach/bowels. When the doctor switched me to Vancocin, i got better. (my treatment was for C Diff). I definitely think it could be the Flagyl (or it's not helping, anyway). I totally agree about the "where the heck does this poo come from?" I didn't eat for a week and still poo - seriously??? LOL.
