Hey all...

I have been reading other posts about people taking prednisone and gaining weight.. I was wondering.. I have been on pred for a week now and have actually lost weight.. (5 or 6 lbs.)   To me, Prednisone feels like being on some kind of drug like speed or something. I can't stop doing things and have hardly any appetite.. I can't go to sleep without something to help and I even though I feel tired sometimes, I just can't stop moving~!  This is not what I expected at all...  Is this normal???

Thanks for any input.. I'm so confused~~~~ (and hoping this doesn't change as I don't want to gain any more weight)

That was my experience on pred too; I lost weight. Most people gain weight but there are those that lose weight too.

The only side effect I had from pred was on the higher dosages. Pred does stimulate the neverous system, at my highest (60mg) I felt like a kid with one too many coffees.

Yep, I have been tapering from 60mg for 6 or 7 weeks now (started 15mg today). I haven't gained a pound, though I seem to be hungry all the time. I think the "speed effect" raises my metabolism. Now, I will say that when I eat anything high-sodium that I blow up for a day or two, but it goes back to normal after I drink a lot of water. I didn't get moon-face until about 4 weeks into it. Other than that, my symptoms are mainly just joint pain. I didn't get the roid-rage like I did last time I took it, LOL.

I gained only a little - I believe the extra energy burns the calories. One more week I will be OFF!!

From what you've written you have been on prednisone for only 1 week....sometimes the side-effects can take longer to kick in (if at all). But don't worry about it. Just focus on getting better.

It's all good except I eat like a bear. On Prednisone I at least double my caloric intake if not more.

Still not much in the appetite department, although yesterday I did eat more than I have since starting it, but it still wasn't much.. One thing is that I just can't sit still... I'm constantly cleaning, moving furniture... my house is SOOOOOOOOOOO Clean... LOL... too bad the not so obvious side effects are so horrible, I'd stay on this drug for a long time... lol....

Yeah, I'm going to miss the energy too. As I sit here working, my legs are bouncing bouncing bouncing in my seat. Nice to have the energy after being SO weak for so long w/ the flare, huh?

OMG.. I have been soooo tired for MONTHS... trying to get this DD to settle down with 5ASA'S and no luck... I've been bleeding off and Mostly on for almost a year and my body was just so tired of fighting... Now the steroids have given me the energy I've been lacking, plus some extra energy on top of that too... lol.... Ya, my house is getting a throuough cleaning.. like it's never seen!!!! It's been a week today and I'm still bleeding a bit, but not leaving the toilet bowl red like before... So ya, it's working... thank goodness.... For now...

I lost weight on it too, until about 10 weeks into it. That's when a lot of the side affects hit me.
