Hi All - I hope people are doing good.

I have been in remission for 9 months but was in hospital for a week with a serious duedonal ulcer in February. Since then I have been doinng alright but last night I had an explosive bowel movement and I could detect mucous.

I took an Imodium and 1 gram suppository as a precaution and went to sleep.

I woke up this morning and had 6 bowel movements - starting normally and then gradually turning to diarrhoea. Now I have IBS so the anxiety may be the cause or it an onset of a flare?

I don't have blood yet thank God, just several BM's.

Any advice on warding it off?

Diagnosis Oct 07: Mild Crohn's Colitis. Also suffer from bleeding Peptic Ulcers. By the grace of God currently in remission. Current Medication: 1000mg Pentasa Tablets x 2 a day. VSL#3. Asacol Suppository at night.

that totally sucks LR....what meds are you taking at this time?

it could be something you ate...but if it continues for the next day or so, i'd say flare.

you could add fibre supplements to bulk up the stool and make sure you are taking probiotics.

I knew I could rely on you Q.

I have been fine since taking an Imodium about 4 hours ago. I had a normal bowel movement last night before I ate. Then after eating I had the explosion. Maybe it was the takeaway?

This morning the bowel movement was again normal but the anxiety kept taking me back to the toilet. I had no urgency really, just wanted to go to the loo.

I took 1 Gram Asacol Suppository last night.
I took 1 VSL3 Sachet last night
I took 1 Gram of Pentasa Tablet this morning.

I will take 1 Gram of Pentasa this evening
And take 1 Gram of Asacol as a suppository and the VSL3 before bed.

BUT: My GI said though to continue with the remission meds as it might just be something I ate and Mesalazine can make the diarrhoes worse if taken too much.

Hi...well, the amount of 5ASA you're taking shouldn't make the diarrhea worse if you've been taking up till now....but I wouldn't take the imodium too much, because if you have taken something that's not agreed with you, it should go out.

I would suggest fibre supplements before the imodium just because it can absorb whatever better and have it exit as compared to the imodium which keeps it in the colon for a longer time.

If it continues for more than 3 days, it's probably a flare or triggered one.

If in fact it is a flare, you'd probably have to up the Pentasa or even just the asacol supps to twice a day.

Hope you feel better soon!

well, so far so good then....must have been too much of something that you're maybe not used to digesting? Too much fatty stuff?

What exactly did you have that was take-out?
