I got a call from my doc said I was had very, very low iron (this explains the cold hands and feet and tiredness) so I'm now on a supplement of 200mg a day. I'm not nearly as cold as I was.
My question to you is I read that being anemic you have slow wound healing and I just had a skin tag removed from my rectum/anus and it's been 10 days and no improvement! I'm still in a lot of pain from it. I'm guessing b/c my bathroom trips are still alot, not so much during the day at all just when I do go in the AM I go for over a hour back and forth and the pressure in the gut pushing on my anus. I feel so swollen down there and it like making me feel like my vagina has pressure in it too.

I have about 5 presnisone (10mg) left over from another time and rectal meds would you do both or just try pred and see if it speeds along the healing. I guess if your anemic healing wounds is a lot slower. The Canasa doesn't always agree with me, but I'm willing to try to get the inflammation down some how and I will do it.

Thanks for the advise
Very mild left sided (could have fooled me with the "mild")  UC. Started LDN ON 1/25/09, stopped LDN on 5/1/09 didn't seem to help. Supplements: Probiotics, Cipro antibiotics 4/29 for 8 days seems to be helping, no bleeding right now, advanced inflammation control

prednisone actually slows wound healing...it reduces inflamation, but slows wound healing....my guess would be if you are having frequent bm's, it is keeping that area irritated. I just had some hemmeroids removed and it took a while to stop hurting.

yeah, lucasj is totally right, prednisone delays healing. Don't take that if you want to speed things up- try sitz baths after a bm, wipe gently, use baby wipes to keep the area clean. Have you actually looked at the skin tag site to see how it's doing? Unless there's pus, heat, swelling, etc. it should be fine. You could alwyas call the doc who removed it & ask for their opnion.

Thank you for the replies no I haven't looked b/c I'm afraid to but I guess I will. I called the doc yesterday and he said to get the cream diclucain its for hemmroids and other cuts and it seems to help with the pain. B/c they said I was anemic I notice after I take my iron pills, I feel better no so sore down there. Is that weird??

Yeah, I agree with Eva Lou on the mind-body connection thing. I can't see how taking an iron pill would help with pain that quickly.

Definitely look down there with a mirror! I mean, you've gotta know what's going on somehow.

The only time I've regretted looking at something was the day after my son was born. Swollen and stitched girlie parts plus hemmies...yikes! I did make me feel justified, though, for walking like an 80-year-old!

I'm scard to have kids that's for sure then! Maybe the iron is help speeding up the healing process? I don't know. I know I shouldn't have Advil, but that's the only thing that take away the pain too sometimes. I'm doing Bentyl one in the AM and one in the PM, Lomotil if needed and my vitamins. Which I was low on Vitamin D, Magnesium, Iron so far is what they said. Are these all typical for someone with UC? Found out I'm allergic to yeast, milk, beef, tomato, rice those are some big allergies.

Eh, don't be worried.  My son will be nine months old on Monday, and he's MORE than worth all of that pain!

What a cutie! You are blessed.

What is Apriso that you are taking?? Also you said in remission is that completely normal stool, no urgency?

Your little boy is so cute! I know what you mean about giving birth...yikes! Sometimes I wonder if I had never gotten pregnant, if my UC would have never kicked in. Who knows??? But yeah, they're SO worth it!

My doc is actually doing a vitamin/mineral test that so extensive it take about 3 weeks to get it back b/c it exams the vitamins that are or aren't getting to the cell level. Very interesting.

Thanks, therearemiracles and Eva Lou! I think he's a doll, of course, but I may be a bit biased....

I am in complete remission right now, it seems. No blood, no diarrhea, no urgency. I'm going 1-2 times per day. Apriso is a mesalamine drug; a lot like Lialda in that you only have to take it once per day, but it's formulated to start dissolving at a lower pH. I was doing great on Asacol, but was having a lot of trouble rembering my noon dose (and sometimes my evening dose), and I know that forgetting doses is a good way to start a flare. I've only been on it about a week and a half, but so far, so good!

Oh, and Eva Lou, I've also wondered if I'd have never gotten UC if I hadn't had a baby (especially since my first flare started 4 weeks after he was born). But, I decided that I don't care. He's worth it. Totally.

I finally took a look down there when I'm going to the bathroom, it looks like raw meat really. LIke I have a crater hole on the left side, this is what it was like before my skin tag removal. Now it feels like I'm getting two new skin tags! Will rectal meds help heal the ulcer down there, it's probably a ulcer right? Cant they start in the rectum and work up? I'm having no blood from it. Please let me know what you think about the rectal meds helping heal the ulcer. Thank you.

I am not sure about Flagyl but I got this stuff called Calmoseptine from the pharamcist (it's OTC but behind the counter), it helps a lot with raw skin and pain. I hope you can get something to relieve this soon, i know how painful it can be.

I was terribly anemic a few months ago. I think it was mostly because I was losing tons of blood for so long. I take a lot of iron now and I feel much better. I was very cold and out of breath, my blood pressure was low and my heart rate flying. Most of these problems have leveled out since the iron pills. I was taking 165mg a day.

Diagnosed with mild proctitis in March 2007: Treated with Canasa (as needed)
December 08: Began treating with Asacol 400mg (9/day) + Canasa 2x/day - Anemic
May 09: Off Canasa, taking Asacol (9/day)
Back on Canasa every other night + Asacol (9/day) + Probiotics + Iron
Reducing to 6 Asacol/day + Canasa + Probiotics + Iron - So far so good!!! -SPOKE TOO SOON! Back to 9/day...

my doc said take up to 200mg, but that doesn't even stop the morning pushing my gut does on it's own. I've tried breathing techniques but that does help. I don't know why it pushes on its own. I have the generic of flagyl and hopefully if its a bacteria problem, like I've always said maybe this one will clear it up. I'm grasping at straws here. My  dose is 250 3 times a day and don't dare drink they said I will get sick!

I do feel like it's raw meat down there when I looked. It was scary to see, but I don't know why my rectal guy didn't see it. I have to go back to him in 4 weeks for him to take another look.

Thank you

I had my stool tested and they said I don't have any "off" bacteria. I was always wishing it was something that simple. Maybe you should go get a tube of the calmoseptine, it may help protect your skin.
