I feel like I might be starting a flare (though, my stomach could just be bothering me due to menstrual cramps). Right now I'm upping my asacol dose by 1 pill/dose, and if it's not better by the end of the weekend I think I'm going to call my GI and see if he'll prescribe something else. However, I really don't want to take pred if something else will help as it screws with my sleep patterns (read: I don't sleep when I'm on it) and makes me really moody (I'm already under a lot of emotional stress due to life circumstances right now and don't want to make it any worse).

I was wondering if there is anything else I should ask about.

Also, side note, which do people find works better, Asacol or lialdia?

I think most doctors feel that patients stay in remission for longer stretches on Lialda, but that's ONLY because there's less of a problem with skipped doses as it's only taken once per day instead of three. That's why I switched to Apriso (and because it starts dissolving at a lower pH). It's the same active ingredient in all three.

DEFINITELY ask about rectal meds. To quote quincy "Treat from both ends!"

Okay, will do. What's it like taking rectal meds, and how often do you generally use them?

I've only used mesalamine enemas; I've never used suppositories. I find the enemas quick and easy to administer, and haven't had any trouble holding them in like others have. Suppositories are supposedly easier. When I was flaring, I used an enema every night. Once I got into remission, I went to every other night, then to twice a week (Sunday and Thursday nights).
