Hi all..  my son had his 7th infusion yesterday.  He is doing so much better with Remicade.    Today, my husband had his colonoscopy, and I was telling the doctor about my son on Remicade.  (They go to different gastro docs.)  Anyway,  I told my husbands doctor that my son doesn't take any other medicine now,,just the Remicade.  He asked if he was on a good Probiotic...I said "no, nothing"   He said after about a year of Remicade he could relapse and get a flare,  and he  should be on probiotics at least.  Do you folks who take Remicade take any other kinds of medicine, or vitamins too?  If not,  did any of you have any relapses and get a flare?   My son does take  a Vitamin supplement but
that is all.   My husband is 68 and his colon looks good.  All he takes is 4 Asacol and 1
6 MP  a day.  He has been in remission for 10 years..  Thanks for your help.
Caring mom.

Cra, the sad fact is that one can have flares on any of the medications we take. Some do, others don't. Like everything else about this DD, it's individual.

I've been on Remi for 3 1/2 years now and have had no flares. I do still take Colazal and I take a daily probiotic. I don't think the probiotic controls my UC, but I know it helps control the overgrowth of "bad" bacteria because I get bacterial vaginitis whenever I stop taking it. The Colazal didn't control my UC before Remicade, so I now am taking it primarily to help protect me from cancer.

I hope this helps.
