I recently came home from a week's stay in the hospital. I was just diagnosed with UC. The doctor is treating me with Asacol. I still feel nauseous every day. I will fix myself something to eat, only to be able to eat a few bites. When will the nausea go away?

Hopefully will start to ease up once some of the inflammation goes down. I am prone to feel that way a little in the evenings. No idea why.

Typically the nauseous symptoms are due to inflammation in the mucosa lining of the bowel wall. When the inflammation is moderate to severe, this is known as a "flare". This is when symptoms are the worst for most people. When the inflammation is nonexistent to mild, this is known as "remission". This is when the symptoms go away for most people. I will wager that you will have to wait until you are close to remission in order for the symptoms to go away. Remission can last many years for some people, others aren't so lucky. With UC there is no "known" cure, so the flares may inevitably return if the disease is not properly treated/maintained.

I had that too. I was afraid it wouldn't end, but it did end, and I did feel better. (((((((((((((((((((big hug)))))))))))))))))))))))))) I know this is a lot to take in right now. There is happy life after this diagnosis.

I never really got nausea, I just want to make sure to tell you to keep eating even if it feels crappy. Good luck!

I had the same thing happen too .... you WILL have to force yourself to eat. Listen to your body as to what you should eat. For me, small bites of banana, chicken and rice and plain, lightly salted crackers got me through until my appetite really came back.

try plain baked potato with a little Smart Balance olive oil based "butter"

My doc had to prescribe anti-nausea suppositories until I felt better and could hold down my meds ...

I tried rice crackers with sunflower butter, almonds, and organic chicken and rice soup. plus peppermint tea or tension tamer tea.

I felt sick to my stomach too when I was in a flare.  The best thing to do is to eat a low-residue diet.....minimal or no fiber.  Slowly figure out what foods make you feel ok and what doesn't then stay away from the foods that make you feel worse.  That may help you at least eat some foods, but when you get closer to remission you will feel better.  This is a lot to take in when you are first diagnosed, however you will feel better when the meds work.  Take care and try to rest, that has always helped me.
