Hi everyone~!

Well, I've been on this new higher dose of Pred (60mg) for 4 days now and I have been on the new drug Apriso for 4 days as well. I am finally starting to see a difference in my BM's and way less blood, although the blood is still present.. but at least I'm not filling the toilet bowl like I was~  Whew!

Talk about being wired though.... this pred is hard to handle... can't keep still or hardly sleep, even with my sleeping pills I still wake up during the night and only get about 4 or 5 hours of sleep a night... lol...  My house is SOOO CLEAN~~!!!!

I'm going to stay at 60mgs of Pred until I get remission for a few days, then I'll start tapering down.. My GI doesn't want me at 60mgs for longer than 2 weeks..   So, things are looking a bit better, Just hope it keeps going in this direction!

My 10 year old (only 68 lbs) had to do 40 mg for 4 days and she was so wired!! She would even rock back and forth in her sleep. Thankfully the pred kicked in really quickly and she is down to 10mg now.

Glad you are finally getting some improvement. It seems like once things start turning around on prednisone, it works quickly - at least in my kiddos cases.

Sounds good Susie....seems a few are having good results with the Apriso as well, but dont know if they're on pred too.

Hope it continues...

Ya, it's been amazing being on Pred... I haven't gained a pound.. in fact.... I've lost weight because I can't keep still and it has decreased my appetite some... I've never dusted my house before at midnight and my stepdaughter was telling me just yesterday that she's never seen me clean so much... lol... but at least on the Pred, I enjoy it... LOLOL....

The highest dose my GI will give me is 40 mgm of prednisone and he isn't happy about that.  I started this recent flare right after Memorial Day and we were camping in PA.  I live in south Jersey and that is where my GI is located.  He started me at only 20 mgm but I KNEW that wouldn't do squat, so I started at 30 mg.  I saw him the following week and came clean about the 30 mgm but the 30 wasn't doing anything either.  Soooo, he increased it to 40 mgm with a weekly 5 mgm taper and increased my 6MP to 100 mgm, which is making me extremely tired.  My WBC's already dropped from 4.0 to 3.1.  I also take nine Colazal capsules daily, Cort enemas nightly and Canasa in the morning, probiotics, fish oil, calcium and multivitamin.
If I may add....make sure you keep a good check on your blood pressure while taking such a high dose of prednisone.  Last year I had to be hospitalized because my BP shot up to 210/110.  It can also increase your blood sugar level.  Prednisone gave me osteoporosis too.   My GI refers to it as the BEST/WORSE drug.  Beware!
62 yr old granny. South Jersey
Diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis in 1998 in hospital
Hospitalized (2nd time) in May 2008
Meds as of June 09: Colazal (6 per day), 6MP (50 mgm), Probiotic (upped to 3 per day), Fish oil capsule, calcium, multivitamin, Cort enema nightly, Canasa in morning.  Also taking Benicar and Toprol to control high blood pressure.  Getting old is a b****.

I'm closing in on a month on Apriso, and am still holding steady in remission; no difference from Asacol, as far as I can tell. I LOVE only taking meds in the morning, though. I feel free! And I haven't noticed any meds in my stool like I was when I was on Asacol.
Status: Remission since late May 2009!
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Diagnosed with pancolitis on 1/30/09
Currently taking Apriso (4 pills ONCE!! daily), Rowasa twice weekly, Natural Factors Ultimate probiotic 12/12 Formula, and Zoloft (25 mg).

I would also get lots and lots done while on prednisone. Not only because of the restlessness, but because I only needed about 4 or 5 hours sleep. It drove my husband crazy. He apparently also notices more irritability...I think it was simply impatience because he seemed to be sleeping all the time while I was up and getting stuff done!

But, oh, the hunger!!
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering. Asacol maintenance for 20+ years; used prednisone & Rowasa for flares.  Probiotics (Ultimate Flora, 50 billion), salmon oil (omega-3) when I can remember.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; eliminated wheat/gluten from my diet.
Bad flare in March, used prednisone. Humira denied, started Remicade 4/12 and doing great~ learning what normal is~ wow

OMG.. I know.. I spoke to soon about the "Not gaining weight" thing... It's hitting me now. I've gained about 3 or 4 lbs in the last week... EEEEEEKKKKK!!!! Oh well, as long as I can get this flare under control I don't really care about the weight.. I think it's mostly water anyway. The ONE good thing is I can't stop doing things... I've never had this much energy and it's kinda nice.. I am concerned about side effects though.. I'm only allowed one more week to get into a remission on this dose of Pred... OR else, then it's Remicade time... Or Humira.. I'm not sure which one would be better to try.. I'm nervous about both of them... But also considering surgery, just in case... See, it's almost 11:30pm and I am sitting her posting (not a bad thing) and watcing Seinfeld and am WIDE awake since 5am this morning!!!! ARGH!!!!! The depressing part is my husband is sound asleep and I can't vacuum the house cause it'd wake him up for sure... LOLOL..
