My husband is currently back in the hospital with suspected c. diff (I say suspected because hospital ER did the cultures on Monday and then he was released with RX for Flagl - which did NOT work - but hospital seemed to have "lost" the culture results so they have gathered new cultures to be run again ...ahem).
I've been doing research on c.diff so I can discuss with Drs. and have read several articles about
the fecal transfer. What I've read says the best results are materials obtained from genetic family members (just FYI). Here is a link to a site with more details about
the fecal transfer procedure: http://www.internalmedicinenews.com/article/S1097-8690%2809%2970028-9/abstract?source=aemf (this is a newsletter forum but I think this site is the one with a couple of pictures showing the items used and how the "at home" process was tried by a Dr., etc.)
Question: Has anyone with c. diff tried the probiotic product called double strength VSL#3? From what I am reading by UC patients and also some c.diff patients It SEEMS like it is very effective in the treatment ... especially those with recurrent bouts of c.diff. Trying to find the product, it seems pretty expensive but the double strength is by RX only and users say most insurance companies will pay towards the RX. The regular VSL#3 is NOT by RX and out-of-pocket and appears to be very expensive. Just want to have as much info as possible for Drs. when they determine course of treatment.
