How many trips to the bathroom are you likely to have after you are done healing from the surgery and everything? Also, are the urges nearly as bad as a UC flare up? I'm at the last straw, I've tried everything besides Humira, and have struggled with UC flare ups for 6 years so I'm wondering if the J-pouch surgery is the way to go?

There is no urgency with a jpouch. I have no idea how often I empty my pouch but if I guess it would be 6-8 times per day. Most of those times are when I urinate. Do you know how often you urinate per day? Emptying the pouch is as quick as peeing so all those days of prolonged visits to the toilet are gone. I would recommend a consultation with the best CR surgeon in the largest city near you. Ask your surgeon for a list of his patients to speak to. Visit www.j-pouch.org for more information.

I have a very active life. I enage in a lot of international travel and long distance hiking in the range of 100-200 miles. If the jpouch was not a viable option and was similar with life with UC, I wouldn't be able to do these things. Life with a jpouch is different than life with a healthy colon but life with a jpouch exceeds life with unrepentent UC.

dx proctitis in 1987
dx UC in 1991, was stable until 1998
